When you've modified a genre to the point it's gotten so popular and widespread that your name is automatically attached to it as one of the "heads" and people are trying to imitate YOUR sound, you basically own the genre

The Prodigy is an amalgamation of about a dozen different genres ranging from DnB, Rave and Breaks to Punk, Industrial and Rock. Big Beat is really just a name for high production quality electronic music the media gave to producers like the Prodigy, Fatboy Slim and the Chemical Brothers, because there's just no classifying them otherwise. They have a sound, and it's their own, simple as that.
