I love some of the changes in this version. The original had Max saying “That dress is you!” but here he says “That building is you!” I think the musical version really tightened up the dialogue, although some changes weren’t as good (like the actor being absolutely terrible, making it comedic, instead of the person playing it straight having to be replaced at the last minute).

This is a rinsed out remake of the sublime 1967 version. In the original, Bialystock, Bloom and Ghia all squeeze into a very small lift and the resulting acrobatics is hilarious.

I saw the production on Broadway 2 days before it exploded into classic- dom. In 50 years of theatre going it was by far up there in my top 5. I never stopped smiling from beginning to end. Great cast but Gary Beach as Roger just blew me away. Mel Brooks is a genius.

I've never seen either version of "The Producers", and only know a little about the basic plot, including "The Dancing Hitlers". I didn't realize this was the remake until I saw Matthew Broderick and knew it couldn't be the original, made in 1967. The acting here is hilarious! :D I have to wonder if this scene was added to the remake (only), because of the content, but "Cabaret" (1972) was just as direct with similar subject matter, and this scene still looks and feels like it's in the 1960s, though filmed in 2005.
