We should rely on and revel in the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives, who works to empower and embolden us as God’s redeemed children to effectively represent him in this world. ‎

The gentleman repeats "saved first and then baptized", and he claims this is stated in Acts 2 and in Paul's conversion as well. I wish he would have expanded on that one point as I just don't see that stated in either passage. Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Johnny - i didn't watch the video but I was researching acts 8:16 myself. Peter needed to be present for the giving and primarily the witnessing of the Samaritans being added to the Lords church. Upon this rock I will build my church saith the Lord regarding Peter. He was given the "keys to the kingdom" to open the door to other people groups. Upon the foundation of Jesus Christ and the preaching and authority of the apostles do we have the instruction to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of our sins. Baptism is an absolute must for being added to the Lords church through obedience of the gospel.

@@solof.546 Thank you Solo for the comment. Peter definitely had the keys to start things off as Jesus told him this was going to happen. Our English bibles say, "Holy Spirit", but I can't help but think that despite being baptized in the name of Jesus (not like Apollos who only received John's baptism) that these Samaritans were exempt from Salvation until Peter arrived (probably weeks later). In fact, the Holy Spirit that Peter and John were giving was very appealing to Simon the Sorcerer. --17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. 18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money 19 and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” -I think Simon could see that the ability to do miracles could only be given by the apostles, which is what he desired, to do miracles and not save people. He wanted the impact that Phillip had, but a power that Phillip could not give, only Peter and John (apostles) could lay hands for miraculous gifts (holy spirit translated in English for that passage). I think those Samaritans were saved at their baptism into Jesus, they had repented. At that time though the apostles and only apostles had the ability to give the special gifts of the Holy Spirit, and I think that was all that was lacking in Samaria. Please let me know your thoughts.

Wow! What an attempt to explain away what the Scriptures say to make people feel comfortable. It may be something this pastor has never experienced. Mark 16:17-18. These signs shall follow them who believe. Signs followed Stephen and he was not an Apostle. Pastors please stop trying to put an Omnipotent God in a box of explanations. Just preach the Gospel then people will believe and let the Holy Ghost do the rest. You ever notice that nobody in Scripture tried to explain how it happened. Why do we?
