Good tutorial conversation. Thanks, In-A-Pot and Thank you, Shane. I understand your point on providing a lamp that doesn't require a lot of fussing about and if I had a commercial grow. But for me and my obbsessive personality I enjoy tweaking the light depending on the plant's growth stage. Good vid guys, Thank you

I’ve been experimenting with supplemental lighting and can confirm it’s very beneficial. I personally just keep a 500w light at the bottom and I can confirm it’s makes a huge different in yield.

Adding side lighting increases the yield if using a grow box.. it mainly works on the under vegetation that normally doesn't get much light

My theory on this, not a pro by any means, but the genetics of indica/ruderalis plants are impacted by seasonal change unlike tropical sativas, and I think it has to do with the amount of daylight each region recieves. The steeper the angle of light is, hitting every leaf, the more surface area of each leaf is being contacted by every photon, so the plant doesn’t need to grow taller, thinner in order to gain the energy it needs from sunlight. It would explain why sativas grow thin and tall versus the bushy short genetics that are already receiving light from wider angles, so theoretically more light COULD create more vegetative growth, but too much light might trick the plants into maintaining the size they already have, since they have no extra demand for light. I think the trick to gaining the most yield per sqft is finding the golden ratio for lighting in vegetative state, and as soon as flower comes, keeping the light levels just a smidge brighter than the vegetative stage. I see lots of grows where people use powerful lights in their veg stage and either come into heating/burning issues, or the plants start off growing very slowly… however in some grows that I’ve seen labeled as “we ran into problems week x-x vegetative stage” I find that a lot of growers will accidentally give a plant too LITTLE light initially, but the plants demand for light is so great that they end up exponentially stretching. While that can be a bad thing, resulting in smaller yields, I’ve always wondered if starting out with barely enough light, and then slowly increasing 5-10% output a week until flowering stage can impact the size/yield of your grow, instead of traditionally getting the biggest LEDs and adding even more light in veg stage

I'm still new at this, but I have a suuuuper squat indica strain that is the best medicine I've had lately, so I'm gonna try to train it to stretch a little more and selectively prune it to give it more space and direct growth to the tops. Hopefully I can get this little bitch to produce, cause daddy want more. Oh yeah, I have a 4 plant count, so just cloning the shit out of it isn't really a legal option.

Yea I noticed that you don’t need too much light when in seedlings. I kept it at 60 percent. And 24 inches from the plants. I raised the lights wattage. I got veg over in 3 weeks. They grow like nuts. Now i moved them to the bloom tent and my hps. I started at 450 watts. 2 days later to 750 watts. After 5 days pistols were showing sex. Now I’m running at 1000 watts. They really stretched. Trying to go over the light. I have the vpd at a steady 1.36 26c and 50 percent humidity. They really stretched.

I like having a gap down the side for a walk way/work space. If your hitting 1000ppfd on the top can the plant use more on the lowers that arent getting as much light without CO²? If you can make hairy legs worth while thats a lot of area. CO² is spendy here, then needing a closed loop and all that comes with that

@@doubleooh7337 I have equivalent to 10k watts and i have used side lighting to simulate sunrise and sunset for the plants that cannot handle the brightness of my best lights. They sit underneath the canopy and still need direct light for a good 6 hours but with a thicker taller canopy it's hard to actually have it. It does help my desert plants living under everything else and a fairly large vanilla which would get sunburned if I sat it outside even.

Great stuff. Side lighting is very important imo. Canopy penetration! Green leds are a much needed feature imo. It combines w/blue to make yellow. which the sun has plenty of. Combine that with red & we get the late afternoon orange that we also see plenty of.

Seems like Shane is doing a dance around side lighting? When you're stuck with a fixed space and excellent top side lighting, side lighting must help with the lower parts of the canopy. Hopefully some of the lower branches will catch-up to the upper parts of the canopy, or at least form more substantial flowering below the canopy. Great video!

I think in a newer video he stated you get a 1 to 1 input to yield, making it very worth it.

@PatrickWilson-hy5yf6 ай бұрын
I love migro but in this one he only look at it as a led light producer if your light fixtures are low in wattage the plants can touch the light i know the light fixture wouldn't be that powerful but youre only supplementing light to maybe raise the par to a usable par if you add more like the barinas or the ac bars or even led shop lights you most likely wouldn't have to lollipop so you get a 20 to 30 percent increase in bottom canopy it was proven in your wardrobe grow
@deleqtronica87332 ай бұрын
I don't think he's selling anything, he's giving valid advice. It's better to max out your top lighting before considering side lighting. Top lighting is much more efficient for the plants to absorb due to the way the leaves are orientated. I'm not saying side lighting isn't good or not efficient, it's just not efficient as top lighting. If you have a 300w in a 4x4, you will gain much more from an extra 200w on top than on the sides, if you're already running 500-700w ontop in a 4x4, you're already pretty much maxed out ontop at 1000+ umols, that's when it makes sense to look at adding more to the sides and under canopy.
@PatrickWilson-hy5yf2 ай бұрын
@@deleqtronica8733 it is valid but there is a more efficient way of lighting a grow tent compared to top light only I have tested this with a mars hydro ts2000 and a set of barrina 2ft led lights 80 watt for side lighting I used a total of 150 watts in 2x2 the one with side lighting had far better penatration I was able to get the same readings off 130 watt total using a combination of side and top lighting
@doktorhunggari4415 Жыл бұрын
Individual diode's par output is limited to the color temp of that diode. A 3000k diode has a higher red to blue when a 5000k diode has a higher blue to red. Migro claims to be an expert however,,,, he fails to address diode color temps. Most new boards mix 3000k and 5000k together and the ratios are different between manufacturers. This ratio determines the wave length saturation and output spectrum thereby affecting plant morphology. Review lights based on plants growing under them instead of trusting words from a hungry entrepreneur...✌️
