Right….. The external dimensions of the MY is length 4751 mm, width 1921 mm (excluding mirrors). The external dimensions of the Mazda CX-5 is length 4575 mm, width 1845 mm (excluding mirrors). So from the outside the CX5 is larger than the MY. But when we were discussing the size comparison during the filming of this video it was in relation to the internal dimensions. In particular the size of the back seat. At this point, external sizes of both vehicles means jack all-internal size matters here. Internally the rear of the MY has head room of 1001 mm, shoulder room 1373 mm, and hip room of 1286 mm. Internally the rear of the Mazda CX-5 has a head room of 990 mm, shoulder room 1391 mm, hip room 1404 mm. So yes Omni Garages’ initial thoughts that the rear seating room of the MY is smaller than the CX5 but bigger than the CX3 still stands correct. The MY has no transmission tunnel and has a glass roof. Having personally experienced both of these vehicles the MY “appears” to have more space in the rear. This is based on the above differences. Unless you have experienced both vehicles then this feeling of “space” is difficult to appreciate from a spec sheet or a video. Happy to discuss…..

Your perspective on the size of the Model Y intrigues me. I currently have a Mazda CX-5 and parked it next to the MY when I test drove it and the size was very comparable. Most notable difference being the swooped back of the Tesla. Width of the rear seat felt identical, with maybe more leg room in the MY. Comparing the MY to a CX-3 seems strange to me. Edit: just googled the shoulder room and the MY is 2cm narrower than a CX5. The CX3 is 5cm narrower than the MY.
@OmniGarage2 жыл бұрын
Yeah we totally agree, in the video we mentioned it’s smaller than the cx5 but bigger than the cx3. And there is more leg room partly due to the flat floor ie no transmission tunnel.
@osh1352 жыл бұрын
I definitely think the model Y is comparable, maybe even roomier on the inside than the cx 5
@OmniGarage2 жыл бұрын
Externally, the CX5 is (and appears to be) bigger. I think the interior of the Model Y is more comfortable, in part due to the flat floor for the middle passenger. The glass roof also gives a nice sense of space.

Apparently Elon decided that because 95% of owners (their number mind you) don’t use the mobile charger they decided not to supply. Unlike Elon to make a decision that benefits him versus those that consume his products!!! $78k for a car and they can’t kick in for a charger!!!

I also planned my M3 purchase to ensure it stay under the $80k for the subsidy - what did I leave out? the white interior & fsd. Would've preferred AWD Dual but to keep the color (Ultra Red) and wheels (19') I wanted, I went RWD. If a refreshed MY comes out in the near future, that will probably be my next move unless we get a RHD Cybertruck (fingers crossed). Loving your content. Would love to see more of your day-to-day use as well as long road trips, just to see how charging stands up while travelling around the country.

You can prioritise a device, however the only affect this has is prioritising the Bluetooth connection for phone and audio - not the driver profile settings. The adjustment Tesla made between the Model 3 we previously owned and the Model Y make it so much less frustrating!

I think it's a horrible looking thing both inside and out. Each to their own I guess but the idea of a blank dashboard with nothing but a big screen stuck in the middle might have looked futuristic at first, but now it just looks like a cost cutting idea and I hate it. I don't like that steering difference either, Generally when you swap to a sister model things like that are the same, although the handling on the model 3 on country roads was poor anyway so it would be interesting to see if there was any difference. Moot point for me I guess though, as I wouldn't buy one anyway.

Get yourself hubcaps that are black (aliexpress has tons of various designs), for under $200 best of both: nicer look, still great efficiency. For the home charger, well phone companies did the same: no more charger included. (they expect most people will be already equiped, else you can use public stations). Great video I’m a future MY owner in Australia (haven’t ordered just yet, waiting for some incentives to be set in stone) For a long time I have flicked between wanting to upgrade the wheels or not. Two things that turn me off are the price and more so the ride quality compromise (according to a bunch of reviews). Recently a work colleague purchased a MY and got some black wheel covers (non-Tesla brand, purchased off aliexpress they told me) that looked AMAZING. I couldn’t tell they were covers. I knew they weren’t any of the options that can be ordered with the car so I assumed they were custom alloys, primarily because they had depth to them (ie not just a two dimensional cover). I’ll follow this comment with a link if KZbin lets me (Not that I want this to sound like a dodgy scam type comment)

@@OmniGarage I wanted a Model Y from the get go, but settled on a Model 3 2022 in the meanwhile, since the Model Y seemed to be so far off, coming to NZ.
