Central Roofing question ...I have foam roof with a slight pitch .I developed a leak in the foam and the foam expanded to a hump along the edge of the roof just before the metal drip edge about 7 ft long by 6 in width stopping the runoff. Your expert advice to remedy the situation. In the past I would cut out a large bubble and insert rigid foam with cloth & elastomeric . Now I need to keep the height low at the edge. Thanks for your help and advise.

Any alternative to silicone coating for a metal roof

Great video! I have a question: What kind of material do you suggest for the walking paths, and could I put this over the entire (small) roof? The reason I ask is that here in Michigan I put down a silicone coating over my rolled asphalt layer on my small (12' x 16') sunroom flat roof, and I'm happy with result. This roof is a great place to hang out year-round, but it's very slippery. I was even thinking about rolling down a layer of asphalt over the silicone coating, which is kind of strange, but I don't have any better ideas. I would really appreciate your feedback, or at least point me to a resource.

I found this out the hard way just a couple hours ago and nearly killed myself lol. I had to call my son to throw me a thick blanket just so I could crawl my way back to the ladder. I don't have an answer to your question, just wanted to verify that YES, this stuff absolutely cannot be walked on, especially if there is an incline, like mine.

I believe they make a part b granulated substance you manually apply over another top coat with a contrasting color. You have to sprinkle it on while it cures on the top coat. We are going to try a light grey color base+ top with dark grey granulated walkways. Should still meet the manufacture warranty.

I got lower temperatures readings with aluminum coating then the white silicone coating. So I spot patched and spot coated with the silicone then covered with the aluminum coating. That’s silicon is way too slippery when wet. It’s coefficient of friction has got to be close to zero.

@@Centralroof Hi. I'm looking for guidance please. I need to fix my flat roof. Years ago white coating was professionally applied, not sure if it was silicone or not (over 20 years ago). About 3-5 years ago I had to go up there and noticed some (what I would call) bubble popped areas. I purchased flex seal to keep from getting any leaks. Now, due to recent wind damage, need to have my sloped, shingles replaced. My shingles Contractor said I need to fix that flat roof. I've watched you video, and read the comments. Here are my questions. Besides this product is there any other roofing products that are not slippery? I noticed that came up on a few of the comments. Second question is, should I wait until the shingles are replaced so not to endanger the construction crew from the slippery coating? Third, once the coating on the roof what is the warranty/guarantee on this product for homes in Phoenix, AZ? I believe I need to scrap off most of the remaining old coating, however, if it doesn't come off completely can I still coat over it without any concerns for future leaking issues? Thank you for answering all my questions. I may have a few more after I get these answers. I'm just starting my research on this. Thanks for your patience. :)

THAN, not THEN. This is very interesting. I'd love to know what you used. I had a flat roof on a pueblo style stucco house in Tucson AZ. The sun UV damage was intense. We coated our roof with a very gooey thick aluminum mixture I remember. Now I have to redo my Class C EPDM rubber roof. I am worried about the silicone being too slippery because it is slightly domed and usually damp. Terrified I will slip and kill myself! Please do share what you used - name of product and where purchased. It is a real challenge to find the right product for my project. I can also use Durabak 18 polyurethane bedliner paint but not sure if it will go over silicone. If I put down silicone, let it cure fully, then do 2 coats off Durabak smooth paint (which has some traction) or textured paint (which has crumb rubber in it), it would be the ideal solution. Durabak will not pick up the dirt, not be slippery, and be easy to clean, and equally reflective of heat. The silicone will seal well and provide some insulation. The roof will be good for 10 yrs at least.

Why would it work on flat roofs but not slanted ones that doesnt calculate

It will flow right off, it is a liquid. Also it would make the steeper roof impossible to walk on safely. It would also not look good.

@@dthorne4602 I have white silicone on my flat roof. After it rained & there was dirt on my roof, I slipped as though I was on a slippery floor with dish soap. Very scary. I learned my lesson. That's a flat roof. If you have a sloped roof and you silicone it, you finna die.

@@aquaticterrafirmaI think when they say residential slanted roof, they refer to slopes of greater than 2:12, we have coated 2:12 roof with silicone, and small area of 3:12 as well, but to try and put silicone on 4:12 would be overkill, they make materials that are cheaper to install at that point, and look better. You can still put on a slope roof residential if it’s flat enough

@@remydavis1502 It will adhere better on a flat roof. Since houses are generally shingles you could get cool roof shingles for a pitched residential roof.

Good question Lane, Silicone Roof Coatings can adhere to just about anything including asphalt, polymer-modified bitumen, metal, concrete, TPO, PVC, and EPDM.

It doesn't stick well to asphalt. I spent this morning dealing with yet another leak on a silicon coated roof - it has failed repeatedly as it just peels off. Not ideal in the UK where it occasionally rains. Every time the silicon fails I recoat with a cheap acrylic one-coat product. It hasn't failed. Enough said.

@@shawnholt5407 In our experience silicone does not adhere well to acrylic. I'd avoid silicone as our experience has been that it doesn't adhere well, splits/tears easily and doesn't breath like acrylic or PU.

@@shawnholt5407 I'm working on a project now in Florida with 100% silicone,I already researched that question, And the answer was yes, silicone, can go on top of almost anything, But you can't use acrylic on top of silicone, Won't stick, That's the information I got,

@@nickdavies1977I have a very slight pitch on my roof with asphalt shingles, fought it for years and had roof replaced after a hurricane promising they would correct issue. Well 3 years later and my new Sheetrock, paint etc is ruined again. I applied some asphalt coating leak seemed to stop for the first couple of rains. Now it’s doing it again, would you recommend? It’s a small cricket 8’ at the top and 2’ at the bottom wide and might be 14’ long. Any help from anyone would be appreciated, friend says rip it out and use a metal preformed piece. Idk what to do and am completely over this after 13 years and 6 people trying to fix! What would you or anyone else care to comment to do? Don’t want to involve insurance but at this point $2,000 deductible seems reasonable…. Pffffffffuck

I am not sure about UV reflectivity being helpful in temperature reductions. It was my understanding from high school physics that heat transmission is more from infrared wavelengths
