Dreamcore often plays with familiar objects or settings that are slightly altered or distorted. This can evoke the uncanny valley effect, where something is almost human-like or familiar but not quite right, leading to feelings of discomfort.

Glad to see someone as interested and even making content for Liminal spaces/Weirdcore/Dreamcore etc. I can’t usually explain why I love these things. It’s not something I can just share with my friends or family either, I truly feel alone when it comes to enjoying these aesthetics but I’m glad to always see a community around it.

felt the same, but what actually helped me was just askin questions, like "why" do i like this particular one? and kept asking why, and came to a short summary of what the dreamcores are, also studied media so that helped interpreting the data my precious little eyes recieved. And after a while I could explain it shortly and effectively to my friends and even raise interest in said genre.

13:24 about this part on escapism, when I'm lucid dreaming I escape reality in terms of the boring logical and realistic landscape but I have one rule. I don't make people who are mundane to me IRL like me Because I need to remind myself that making them like me in my dream is a fantasy and nothing changes outside that, it's up to me to change reality by becoming more likeable and making them into REAL friends in REALITY

Dreamcore touches me personally deeply in my memories for a special and curious reason: when I was a little kid, I would use my mom's petite laptop every day after school classes spending hours in an old and maybe a bit forgotten program called Google SketchUp, which has a particular liminal appearance with that endless territory divided in a non tangible green ground and a massive grey white roof. Downloading 3D models of buildings of all kinds (parks, monuments, houses, etc) and also adding animals, humans and creatures with the purpose of creating my own scenarios where you could visit the Great Chinese Wall and then go to the Empire State, was one of my biggest joys back then. The feeling of solitude seeing all those models put together and floating in that dreamlike space amazed me in ways I just can't explain, and when I observe all these images and videos of non-existing places that look like my SketchUp worlds I'm taken back to those times when I was so happy with a simple design program I played as a game. ❤ Great video! Thanks for describing a bit of the psychology behind these precious aesthetics.

This video gave me a sense of satisfaction, its so hard explaining that super comforting isolation of dreamcore to someone, because im the only one whos so deeply into it, longing the feeling of wanting the vintage, comforting isolation, games with dreamcore or photos just dont help, i want to physically be there, live there, feel how it is, experience the comforting isolation that i want so badly, im the type of person who often gets lots of dreams with dreamcore photos and dreamcore aura, i mean a lot, and honestly, i hate waking up from them, it really does feel surreal, thank you so much for this. :)

Personally I appreciate how well the topic discussed coheres to the video of gameplay on display, talking about these concepts that all make sense the more you go thru these liminal spaces...while I was listening, it's 3:00 AM and I caught myself looking at a wall that wasn't the right shape and just seeing it as "simply the architecture of this building" and somehow not "wow, that is not how walls look in a hotel, with a diagonal facing 90 degree in it, is that wall broken?" which is another part of the whole escapism of liminal spaces and dreamcore as a whole. We are all safe here, in a world that exists only as much as it doesn't exist.

I think this stuff resonates with me especially because my whole life ive been a lucid dreamer and it only got stronger the older ive gotten. Almost all my dreams are lucid and have been for at least 10 years now. Growing up with a traumatizing childhood meant it was often the only place where i had any control in my life. Preferred to sleep than be awake a lot as a teen because it fulfilled whatever desires i had and its not like i would ever get in trouble because none of it is real. Seeing dream like aesthetics in detail just reminds me of the bittersweet memories of my escapism, theyre lonely but theyre not sad, only sad looking back on how i miss them. But i can visit my dreams anytime and anything ive seen in them. In a way the discordant look of it all is more comforting than the all too sensical reality which was often harsh and unforgiving. Not to mention i can back to a time and a place and do certain things again like play outside as a kid with friends so that also makes it rather nostalgic. All i wanted as a kid was control over my life and my body which often acted without me (impulse control issues) and now im an adult with no more issues with that besides working on medication for the impulse control and i can still lucid dream every day but i dont need it anymore as an escape so that part of it is also nostalgic since the coping mechanism side of it is lost pretty much forever due to me moving on. Its still there just like my memories and dreams and places ive visited but its no longer what it was.

My dreams must be anomalous. I usually find myself in places where the color palette is just... different. Sky is orange, plants are pink, fruit comes in a myriad of colors. Water is chromatic. Clouds are opalescent. I can shrink or grow to whatever size is needed, if i fall i just start flying because i never hit a "backwards". One time I got to explore a never ending parking garage where each floor had different stores. Another time I explored a castle that every door just led to another room in the castle and it just kept getting bigger. Like some cheerful, pastel white and red castle.

i said this on another video but the images of dreamcore, especially backrooms level ones or open field ones give me the same kind of discomfort as looking at pictures from mars or venus or even the moon. "its so lonely out there" and "this isnt home" are two thoughts that i think cross between the two. not to mention some of them have a lack of scale, so that little bump in the ground could be 5 cm tall or 50km tall and you cant tell. i think dreamcore was probably what got me into space imagery as well.

Dreamcore isn’t about being actual dreams, it’s named dreamcore to mimic the experiences of dreaming not the reality of dreaming. For example the way in which dreams constantly cut from location to location, place to place, in the dream it’s not disorienting as it’s your whole reality in the moment. However dreamcore mimics this disorientation to harken back to the idea of dreams through its landscapes, by utilising nostalgic imagery and distorting them into unrealistic surreal proportions they present a familiar yet unfamiliar visual that mimics that same sense of disorientation and confusion.
