relief that's the thing, they didn't say don't get offended. Sometimes people can't help getting offended at something but that doesn't mean the guy has to potentially go to jail for making an offensive joke. Because at the end of the day it's a joke. I could even argue the most offensive jokes are the funniest. Also while I do agree that timing is important for sensitive jokes, I believe his joke was quite harmless compared to the real violence and shit that can actually hurt someone.

If you have this simplistic mind , I don't know how far in life you'll get in these times. The fact that his actions can be seen as wrong in the court of law just shows that you have to be careful. if you guys really don't understand why it is like this ,imagine this, your mother and you are in a war, and your mother gets brutally killed in front of you. because of that your up bringing is difficult and poor. you have a child , and the PTSD ,flash backs and up bringing affects you deeply , now your child grows up seeing how this event had hurt you even though they were not part of it, they built resentment, anger, sympathy ,pity , sadness they feel for you and your mental state after a traumatic event like that. now they have a child, and the child sees their parents complex emotions ,and the grand parents behavior because of the traumatic event , and the child too becomes emotionally impacted by the event despite never being part of the event or having a parent part of that event. and now that child goes to school or something and some person that had never experience that same tragic feeling makes fun of you for having your grand parents be part of the war , making fun of how that war was, how the murders were and how it affect people. it's not just a "nag nag i'm offended nag nag" kind of feeling ,it's something serious that impacts the lifes of those that have or had family be part of the event. that is why it's not a joke to everyone ,and it's so difficult to explain how it's still hurts and how they don't want to see such things. Yes maybe the next generation that have never seen a surviver , or the generation after that that can't even empathize with the emotions , maybe they can joke about it, but even though it's been about 70 years , it's still too soon. it's still a life time. just fucking wait a bit longer it won't hurt you. just a bit of respect for those still affected by it.

Nefertiti Kimagawa Yes, it does. Maybe in Europe is a more sensible subject but, to a lot of us with relative that actually are still talking about the world war two with sadness and tears and scarred by it, this is bad. We can compare it to the protective feelings you would have towards the one you love and suffered from abusive relationship, would you react that lightly if he would said 'do I rape the kid?' because that and even worst thing happened to the one we love and yes are still much alive.

I would argue that any Jew could complain and it should be valid, this is their history and it left a big impact on their community that can still be felt today. I'd imagine if someone were to joke about slavery, it'd be insensitive to black people and similarly if someone were to joke about the railroad workers or the japanese- american relocation, asian people (like me) would be mad as well. Idk, i just feel like if someone were to tell me that I'm being offensive and explained the historical significance of it, then I will listen and stop what I'm doing .... it's really not that hard to not be a piece of shit

Time is indeed important. Today, people who are directly connected to the Holocaust, slavery and wars still exist. It is understandable that seeing something that deeply and negatively affected you, made fun of, can be insulting and hurtful. But I do think that the amount of hurt people experience can be too much. Steve gave a good example: you don't see people who experienced physical violence getting angry and bringing these movies to courts. The severity of the event are different, but the idea of being offeneded by something that is deeply connected to you is the same. I also agree with him on how it's such bs to bow down to these people who may have been connected to the incident. Let's take a look at black people: most of us do not have a direct connection to slavery. Similar to what david and joe said, it's hard to connect to something we've never personally experienced. Although this is the case, many blacks feel as if they should be offended on their ancestors behalf. But truth is, although we share the same history, we did not experience the same things and have no right to say we actually understand how they felt. Many blacks admit to this, and instead focus on the injustices that they can actually understand and that they face today. And I'm sure there are many jews who choose to do the same. so why is it that these things offend some people but not others. That's because we ourselves choose how much meaning we add to things and how deeply it affects us. we should never forget history and its impact that it had on people. But we also shouldn't pretend to be offended by something that isn't actually hurtful to us. People will continue to be offended by these things and that's no one else problem but yours. And seriously just think.... HOW TF DOES A MAN TEACHING HIS DOG THE NAZI SIGN!? PUT HIM ON THE SAME LEVEL AS HITLER AND HIS SUPPORTERS!? and if you needed someone to tell you. IT DOESN'T!!

I think some people need to actually live in Europe and talk to European people more, particularly the people coming from European countries greatly affected during the Nazi time, to really understand what this means. This is not an issue where you say "if you don't experience it yourself, shut the fuck up". You should speak up about it even if you are not directly affected by what had happened. Take black lives matter movement as an example. What do you think will happen if you say "I feel like the only people that can speak up and get pissed about it is black people"? You'll get a huge backlash for it. All I am saying is that people need to be careful of what they say about these things. It affected bunch of people even though they never actually experience what the people at that time had experienced. I am neither European nor Jewish, I am not offended by the joke because it's not really part of my history, but I have been living in the Netherlands long enough to understand that European people take this matter seriously. I love you Joe, but I have the urge to speak up about what you said. I have heard similar opinion from you in another video related to this issue before. I let go the first time but I choose to not let go the second time.

to tell someone to simply ignore these types of jokes is to passively reveal your own privilege, reject the occurrence of historical struggles faced by PoC and other minorities, and normalize offensive behaviors. I agree that some people are hypersensitive and blow certain things out of proportion, but I mean, it's pretty easy to just not be a dick and make jokes that refer to explicitly offensive things.

Yes! This whole video I was thinking "Steve, it must be nice being a part of a group that was never victimized, to the point where you can't empathize with others."
