But the ball hit me not even that hard and I literally just collapsed in the high school gymnasium in front of nearly 1,000 people crying like a bitch. Had my first boxer's fracture when I was in 8th grade, (that's the technical name for a particular break in the arm and wrist) i had all kinds of broken bones and that jaw is some painful shit. Ruddock was on of the kindest gentleman I ever met. I was in high school and I boxed at Golden Gloves gym in Las Vegas, NV. I arrive at school one day and recognize a team of men on the track and football field. One was Ruddock's manager who's name I fail to recall. Ruddock was suppose to show for wind sprints and other running. His manager and team talked to me for 20 minutes about boxing and my love for the sport. He told me to be there same time the next day to meet Ruddock because now they knew he was not coming. The next day I was there and Ruddock no shows again and I go to class but not before Ruddock's manager got my name before I left. 30 minutes later the Principal comes to my first period class and asks for me. He walks me to the football field where I met Mr. Ruddock and his team. They sent for me. Amazing day. For 30 minutes he talked to me about his game plan to fight Mike. He gave me a Leather Coat that had his image in colorful leather throwing the smash punch that said Team Ruddock across the rear shoulder area. He then had me out to his sparring sessions to watch him train. This was a Large powerful man. Tyson was my size and Ruddock dwarfed me. I was lucky enough to have tickets to their rematch. Anyways, that is what happened and how I met Ruddock. Good guy.

Stronk Tomato I agree. However a shorter fighter is at an advantage and disadvantage when they close the distance. Even though they can fight on the inside the opponent can try and put their body weight on them. Take Tyson Fury for example. In his second fight with deontay wilder he took every chance he got to put his weight on him.
@ieuanhunt5524 жыл бұрын
Peekaboo
@onepoundswallowtwopoundcoc31154 жыл бұрын
It's a yes and no answer. Think of reach as being an immediate advantage for beginners. When you only know the basics, that reach will keep most fighters back. Recently a lot of intermediate boxers have complained about how there is so much info for smaller guys to use to get inside. They also say the smaller guys are more compact. They claim that the reach advantage is a myth. The reason is because they're no longer fighting beginners, as they moved up to be intermediate boxers. The reach advantage is real, but it is not an overall advantage. Think of tall basketball players. They have less skill usually, as they can just spam their height. When they go against other D1 college players, they finally have to focus and learn more then they use to. In JH I was growing slow as hell, and was five feet exact. I realized multiple ways to get around their height advantage. One was a crazy fast three point hook shot. I mean at a running pace. Now that was not an immediate thing I could pull off. I had to visualize my placement in conjunction with the hoop. It took a while, but eventually I got it down. When I did, they had no answer to blocking it. It was just to fast. Funny thing was at that time I could only do it at a certain area along the three point line. If they were as skilled as me, or others, they might have realized that. Then maybe even shut it down a few times. They never did. Yet height reigns supreme in basketball. It is an immediate advantage, but that can make them rather complacent. Hence why the guys who grew slowly, and had to become more skilled, utilized their height much better. Stop thinking your advantage is always an advantage, or an overall advantage. If a fighter knows how to utilize his reach, that is why it has any bearing in a fight. That along with what I said about if the fighter knows how to get in the inside relatively easy. Using this video, Tyson rarely got hit when ducking, but here he took those smashes. It comes down to the styles of each fighter, and not these supposed advantages. Take for example that most of the time reach does matter, but one guy bets on the shorter reached fighter. One guy sees this, and laughs. He says "Don't you know his reach is two inches shorter"!? "No way he wins". "Just switch the bet before you lose your hard earned cash". The guy looks up at him, and says, "I appreciate the thought, but imma stick with it". The fight happens, and the guys fighter keeps landing two shots to the other guys one, and dodging most of his. The next day he goes to get his money. The other guy sees him, and immediately asks him how he knew. He responds with a tip of his hat and, "That sir is a trade secret". It almost seems unknown to people, but less distance to travel means a faster punch. Manny Pacqiuo fought that a-hole cheater, who had a significant reach advantage, and seven lbs on him. Manny hit him twice to every punch, and sometimes even three times. My point is that you need to look at the variables given, and how they intertwine. Basically most people are doing subtraction from the base variables, but those variables often are multiplying, not adding. They take these numbers and either just add them up, then subtract, or line them up across from each other, and then subtract. An example would be to take reach, speed, etc., and just add those numbers of each fighter. The one with the bigger number is supposed to win. Often enough they don't. Take Roy Jones jr for an example of speed, and compare him to Tyson. Tyson in his prime was faster, but he also was slower. Contradictory isn't it. Well might seem that way, but there is a difference between running five miles vs two. Tyson got to the end goal faster by positioning himself better, but would be slower if he ran the whole five miles. RJJ was fast as hell, but more distance makes you slower than less distance. Now I'm not saying RJJ should have adopted Tysons style, as your body type affects your style immensely. More or less, you gotta realize that to many people take boxing lightly, and see it as checkers. It is chess, as there are so many moves that could be done, especially to counter certain moves.

I wish EVERYone in today’s world took this stance. Sometimes not having an opinion is smarter than trying to form one. Even more respect that someone of his magnitude handled that question with as much humility as he did. That’s the problem with today’s world. Everyone wants their opinion heard and for it to matter and they think they’re an expert on everything. Props to Mike and Razor 🤙🏼

I cannot imagine getting your jaw broken from a punch, and the pain that must entail, but the fact that he managed to keep fighting 9 ROUNDS, whilst continually being hit with a broken jaw is beyond me. He must've been in excruciating pain constantly. I have nothing but respect to all boxers, because only one of the punches they take and give 100s of times during a fight would be enough to break my ribcage and fracture my skull.

Tyson is a highly intelligent man with a measured high IQ...who grew up in the early part of his life on the mean streets of Brooklyn and then under the direction (actual legal custody) of a boxing coach from about the age of 12. Environment is pretty important, he probably could have done anything he really wanted to in life...but that left counter punch...good Lord...what a beast. Ruddock was no slouch himself. What has happened to heavyweight boxing!!!??

Also to add to his troubled upbringing, his mother would often get piped down in the room right next to him by single or groups of men for money. I bet having a mother that carries out those actions especially at such close proximity to their child will fuck with your head and perception of women in total. Not to excuse his actions but that’s gotta fuck you up.
