Netflix cancelled season 3 because the Disney buyout of marvel was imminent. The legal ramifications would be too expensive as Disney was halting everything to do its version but even Disney said they'd respect the darkness of DD and punisher and try not to change it.

Punisher is arguably better than every marvel Netflix show besides daredevil. Phenomenal character and the acting is out of this world in this show. Hopefully the Disney reboot doesn’t soften punisher too much

The prototype for the Punisher was Mack Bolan, the Executioner (a series of books by Don Pendleton). Early on, Mack refitted a Ford Econoline van (IIRC) to act as his "war wagon," carrying the many weapons he needed in his fight against the Mafia. He was a Master Sergeant from the Vietnam War, of Welsh-Polish descent. IIRC, Netflix had announced the cancellation of all the Marvel shows before they began shooting Punisher S2.

From the comics I thought I knew how brutal the Punisher was but I really didn't find out until this series. The punishment (pun intended lol) that Frank goes through not just physically but mentally is just insane! This man can take a hit and he just keeps coming!

I heard a rumor that the MCU could bring back Jon Bernthal for Daredevil: Born Again. I really hope they don’t Disney-fy the character. I think DD can survive TV-14, but The Punisher is a brutal character who NEEDS that TV-MA rating (at least in his own series) just like Deadpool needs to be Rated R. I would like to see Frank Castle in a Spider-Man/Defenders crossover, the Thunderbolts, or Captain America: Brave New World (he has mad respect for Steve in the comics). It’d be dope to see him interact with: - Spider-Man, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Echo, & Kingpin - Sam Wilson, The Winter Soldier, & USAgent - Deadpool & Wolverine

The punisher was made by ABC Studios which is Disney. Netflix is just the distributor. They just put it on their service

Most of these shows got cancelled after Disney bought Marvel because Marvel TV Studios went as part of the package. So Disney was left to decide if they were going to re-up.

This series is pretty fun. I HIGHLY recommend you watch just S1 of Jessica Jones after this. It may be hard to believe but that 1st season is nearly up there with Daredevil in terms of quality IMO. Also Kilgrave is easily one of the most menacing live-action Marvel villains just under Kingpin.
