The pushback about his opinions on different genres of music from diehard fans, political leanings-left vs right and the age gap of his relationship whether it was legal or illegal when it started. Though, even if you have legal age gap relationship the worst is always assumed, and people online just love to treat people like crap. I do believe you had a better take them most on the situation vs the majority of others on youtube.

The positive reactions (as in people that weren't celebrating his demise) are definitely a very very tiny minority compared to the people practically baking cakes and having parties over it (sarcasm of course, but clarifying because it's the internet 🙄). I think when that many people come out and are relieved to hear you're gone, it is definitely a "you" problem, for sure. 😅

This is a great take - One of the best I have seen yet. As someone who has followed his career on YT and loved his writing on his old blogs like Metal Inquisition and State of The Scene… he definitely at one point liked music, or at least THE SCENE around it. I mean, the dude has stated multiple times he has TWO Hatebreed tattoos. When he started the channel it was a small community where he was able to inject his personality. As he got bigger, there was so much digging into his personal life via Reddit and attempts to “cancel” him however they can due to his wife’s content, his views, whatever. Years later, he has a family now. He is super talented in marketing and brand building. Does he want to subject himself to nonstop investigation and criticism while he tries to raise his young son with his wife? Probably not. Does he want to have a stable career as a brand advisor where he is more in the background and not the face/product - making OTHERS the product. Pulling in most likely more money, enjoying TIME OFF with his family. Maybe occasionally throwing Hatebreed’s Satisfaction on in the car. One of these options is clear. Best way to ensure you live a comfortable private life and not have your son’s face plastered around with negative comments due to your musical opinions? BURN IT DOWN!!! Props to Finn. As someone who was a musician on tour with my band (that I am commenting from right now as my primary channel is locked for no reason) the early days of his YT career I felt comfortable reaching out to him for advice. He PROMPTLY responded. His first statement - I don’t work with bands, it’s not easy to sustain and there’s too many factors and broke dudes. I hit him back explaining I was starting a mental health podcast interviewing people of different backgrounds locked inside in 2020. He reached back out and provided me an INCREDIBLE list of resources, books, and podcasts to help me achieve my goals. He didn’t ask for money, he was super kind and knowledgeable. Gonna say the dude just doesn’t want the toxicity of his youtube channel floating like a black cloud over his small family. He had a way out, he took it. Hoping he continues to be successful. I don’t think this is him turning on the scene, I think it’s (part of) the scene turning on him. He doesn’t want to fight. His audience is no longer serving him in leading a happy life. Cut the cord. PS: shout out to you guys for pushing Silly Goose in there. Played right before them at Louder Than Life last year, great band and a crazy work ethic. Cheers to you guys! Burnout is real, loved this video. Will be subscribing when I get my channel back!!!

It's a weird one because there's also a simular issue within bands themselves right. So like you have a new up and coming band that want to get on bigger shows, the promoter will ask how many tickets can they sell. Obviously they're an up and coming band so the answer is going to be minimal. However the headline band already playing could sell out the venue on their own, which gives the up and coming band a chance to play to a actual audience and build a stronger following for the next time they play in that town. However promoters generally won't book them.
@user-tz2zz5ij1s17 күн бұрын
The guy obviously isn’t worried about coming back. He’s a marketing guy and set a financial goal and reached it. Doesn’t matter if you like him, he seems like a pretty smart business guy. KZbin isn’t his life, he saw a market to capitalize on and went for it and was successful. I think the ones that have a problem are the ones stuck trying to make money on KZbin because they don’t have any other skills, or the people that don’t understand it’s all entertainment, he doesn’t owe anyone anything.
@rock_and-or_roll16 күн бұрын
My biggest problem with Finn is that he was never a creator in the punk or metal scene. Never started a band, never ran a venue, never worked at a record label, never did anything within the music industry. So his moniker the punk rock MBA was a bit of a bait and switch. The “punk rock” part and the “MBA” part were two wholly different things. I think most of us were interested in Finn at the outset because he had a very good working knowledge of the punk and metal scenes during the time period while he was growing up and deeply involved with them. There are a lot of elements involved with this, but I think one of them that people aren’t talking about is that, well, he’s just grown out of it. When you become a husband and a father, lots of other things take precedent over the things that you would usually use your leisure time for, like music, video games, movies, and TV, etc. When you’re snorting Coke and getting blind trunk, yeah, you’ve got lots of time to go to shows and keep up with the latest bands. But once you’ve got to start meeting schedules, cooking dinner, and wiping dirty baby butts, your priorities change.
@dominikaksiazek717716 күн бұрын
If you watched Tank the Tech's video about him, you'd know Finn has been more involved behind the scenes than most people think. And Tank is a guy who's been years in this industry, he's a tour manager at the moment.

This whole thing is so bizarre. I only recently discovered McK's content and for the most part found it quite entertaining. If, as he said, he really wasn't into music at all, it seems like he did a fair bit of research to firm his opinions. The past I don't get is why he was so blatant in repudiating his old work. All he needed to have said was that he felt he wasn't really creating the kind of content that he wanted to, and I think most people would have probably understood. A lot of big name youtubers have done that recently and no one holds it against them. The really aggressive way he dismissed his old work and insulted his fans seems nuts and created this backlash. The only reasons I can see why he would do this is either he really has gone crazy or he wanted to drive attention. Sad to say but I'd imagine he's go a lot of engagement these last few days.

Never watched again, though his thumbnails kept appearing on my feed and sidebar. Can't say I'm surprised, not because "I always knew he was a poser" like some people are saying, but because I've seen this happen more than a few times. I believe people should learn to detect and avoid the potential Finn McKenty's in this world, as such people are a waste of time and resources that are better off going towards sincere, passionate, and honorable individuals.

I find it hard to imagine he just printed all those hardcore show flyers for his backdrop and must have been like "Earth Crisis? Never heard of them" - kind of disturbing to be THAT fake for that long.

I think some people are taking what he said is he never liked punk or metal I don’t think that’s what he meant and if he did, I think he’s trolling. I don’t think he’s really cared about either type of music for a few years now. Yes, I know he said you can just go to Wikipedia and look stuff up about any band or album and that’s true but there have been too many times on his show especially if he’s got a guest on and they’re talking about something and they’ll go off topic like 12 different times and one of them will bring up and obscure band It’s not just that he knew what he was talking about. It’s stuff that you can’t really put in a Wikipedia page. Some things you just really had to be there for. Like when he brings up a specific part of his song that he guitar effect was doing, and then he tells the other guy that it reminds him of something this other band did and the other guy knows exactly what he’s talking about, there’s no way I will ever believe he just never listen to any of it. The other thing is, he was right about a lot of stuff. Yes Metallica and Korn have both been around for decades now. Yes they are older bands, but he’s right. Those are the bands people are interested in. I’m tired of seeing top 10 list of modern metal and I look at the list and half the bands I’ve never heard of and the other half I go look up the numbers for the album and it moved 3000 units for the whole year, meaning it probably got a couple million streams. In fact I think that’s exactly what it is. If you did 3000 units . Is there just not an audience for it? Or is there really a thing where teenagers just don’t care about metal or punk anymore? Or do the teenagers do like metal in punk but they just like the older stuff like they got into it but the only stuff they like is Ozzy Osbourne and Pantera and Metallica and RATM and Slayer…… I mean there has to be a reason. Either teenagers today just don’t care about metal and 90% of the fan base is 35 or older or there are millions of teenagers that like metal but no one gives a crap about the new bands. Yes, I love but I’ll be honest is all stuff from the late 60s to the 2000. I’m going to watch a video about a band that came out last year. I don’t care. But if it’s something like Megadeth, Korn , COC, etc. Of course I’m going to watch it. I’ve been fans of those bands for decades. I thought I was alone, but apparently nobody of any age cares about any of the new bands. If they were, they would get hundreds of thousands of views on his videos and everyone that has entered the same community has all said the same thing. That they were going to cover new bands and new albums to get new people on it and then they realized it didn’t matter. they’re not going to spend hours by a band that came out four years ago because it’s only going to get a couple thousand views so they’re going to go make their fifth Skipknot video. So yeah, he’s not wrong but I don’t understand why people care. I don’t see how hymns saying he doesn’t like music anymore and he quit KZbin pisses anybody off. What he meant his financial goals? Is that the part that has them butt hurt? it’s his job. Everybody takes a job that they might like at first and then eight years later you hate it that’s not uncommon. It’s fine if you don’t like him I’m not gonna argue with you but get mad that somebody that so many people claim they didn’t like and wish he wasn’t on KZbin then get more mad when he actually quits KZbin? That’s kind of dumb.

He should have called the channel " Adults who listen to music made for 15 yo's. Content certainly had nothing to do with Punk ,- unless it's the other prison definition of the term. I wouldn't had thought that his weak, poorly informed opinions warranted a hundred videos on his retirement.
@DownfallDarkness18 күн бұрын
It doesn't, LOL. It's a business formula. Viral KZbinr "retires" so, make a video on it-capitalize on the impressionable consumerism, as an attempt to garner traffic to your own channel, etc. Now Finn is trying to charge 1,000s of dollars on "LinkedIn" to teach this same information I'm relaying-to the rest of y'all plebs online; who want the clout. Common sense is not so common, apparently! I'm not surprised. Always knew Finn was cookie-cutter & did it for the money. _"Surprise!"_

@DownfallDarkness It was a rhetorical question, in case you missed that.I fully realize that the vast majority of content creators are inspired much more by the possibility of a independent, fairly easy income flow than they are by their chosen subject matter,-" LOL".

@@infinidominion Way more. You should know, that if an upload from a standard account reaches 500k views, it gets automatically deleted. So for a standard user as i am i cannot reach more than 500k views per upload and would need to re-upload all already deleted uploads...which i am not doing, because i am too lazy. :) Also people should know that my channel is not about me, but only the content and that the big differences in views are purely a matter of interest (lesser clicks no interest).

Guys, the idea of being positive is definitely laudible as a goal but the man admitted to literally lying for money and pretending to be something he wasn't to fleece his fan base. At some point you need to drop the charitability and call a spade a fucking spade. Also saying, "Oh he took the money and ran, is that any different than any on else" is extremely tone deaf and shows an pretty lacking set of standards on your part in regards to integrity.

Thanks for the video. "But, It doesn't make money!" You seem to forget that there's people out there like me would rather have 2 friends who like "Silly Goose" than 100,000 half-hearted fans of The Beatles or Green Day. So, you can balance out having all human relationships "only for the money" versus having a "work/life balance" and making 2 videos about Green Day and 1 video about Silly Goose. Pay your bills with Green Day, nurture your human soul/spirit by connecting positively with another human by posting about Silly Goose. 200 views are not bad if you get 10 sincere true believers of you, and you can supplant it with reading Wikipedia articles on mainstream stuff

What is all this talk of 'burn out'? Seriously, you're ascribing reasons for him quitting that he never said. Yeah, he said he was tired of making videos, but he also *specifically* stated the reason he's quitting is because he reached the financial mark he was trying to hit. Period. He never said he was quitting because of burn out.

I watched many of his videos but lost interest with time. His research seemed to become significantly sloppier and his ad-game became overly frustrating to watch. Too many ads, and some downright inappropriate. I unsubscribed his channel when he had an online gambling site sponsoring a video that partially also dealt with addiction issues in his family.
@shaneturner933617 күн бұрын
This guy says on his show now that he is quitting because he is burnt out on it but the real reason he is quitting is because he doesn’t even listen to or like music , knows nothing ABOUT music and only knows ANYTHING about ANY band or is because he googles and Wikipedias them and finds out all he needs to know and make a piece on it . He doesn’t even listen to any of these bands and the nostalgia that it felt like he had while talking about certain bands and songs was ALL FAKE ! He doesn’t have the same feeling WE had growing up listening to the music we listened to because he was a nerd that didn’t listen to music , probably didn’t have any friends and grew up playing video games in his room all day and night . He probably started it to try and get in with the cool crowd and is just there for the money the clicks and other than that he has literally NO interest in any of it . There’s video of him saying it .

The latest stuff he did was just reading wikipedia. He was oddly objective doing that. Much better than him telling me I should embrace MGK doing poppunk for whatever reason he had. Why should I embrace MGK? His music sucks and it is completely inauthentic. I heard all marketing and no punk attitude at all.

Whatever the real reason was for him quitting, he obviously doesn't want us to know about it. I can believe burnout, but the whole thing about him not liking the music seemed disingenuous. Either way, I did enjoy quite a few of his videos. Finn might be a grifter, but a good video is a good video.

Everybody is pulling up snippets from this interview but they clearly didn't listen to the whole thing. He started in marketing he went to talking about music because he knew he would get the clicks and then he just got burnt out talking about stuff he didn't really have a passion for. I don't blame the guy for leaving at all and he also said he's making two to $3,000 a month still in residuals for a little bit I wish I could get residuals like that on something I quit. Good for him for taking the money and running.
