The way these animals disguise themselves, millions of years of evolution to modify their bodies and behaviors to look like anything but themselves is so remarkable.

I once visited a cave and the tour guide said something along the lines of there are bats insects and an endangered cave newt that calls this cave home and while you will likely see a bat or insect it is extremely unlikely to see a newt. To which i replied, "you mean one of those?" and immediately found one on the cave wall. I was incredibly proud lol

Pootoos turning into stumps and fenceposts during the day is my favorite. They have see translucent eyelids so they can conceal their eyes wide still keeping an eye on the predator.

Great video of observation, Aranya. I would say that for me, the octopus takes the crown of camouflage because the fact that they have cells that helps them change not only their color, but their exterior to match perfectly in their surroundings is ingenuity as its finest. For those of you who know, there’s a character in the IDW comics of Sonic the Hedgehog who is a shapeshifter because it happens to be a cephalopod aptly named Mimic. Hence proving my point. 🐙

Are there left and right faced flounders? Like when the eyes start to transition from opposite to same side, is it always one way or is it 50-50 which side will swap?
@leithscrumhalf414310 ай бұрын
That's a good question and the answer's not straightforward. There are several species of flounder. Some species lie mostly on their left side with the eyes on the right but some members do the reverse. Other flounders are the complete opposite i.e. most lie on the right with some on the left. As far as I know (and I'm not a marine biologist) all species have some variation.

Camouflage isn't just to hide from predators, but also from prey. Plenty of apex predators use camouflage as well because they don't want to frighten their prey away.

You know, while not the most glamorous, I have to say that I'm most impressed by insects camouflaged as bird droppings. It's still baffling to me how this managed to evolve. Not the prettiest, but an impressive one.

Those creepy eyes of a gecko! If perfect camouflage is to be spotted, it'd be due to eyes. It's curious for animals with a bizarre design of eye that they're seemingly visually-oriented predators.

All those retro clips make “second nature” about as enjoyable as getting a filling at the dentist. After years of watching AnimalLogic and watching the channel grow, at this point, I’m only subscribed for FloraLogic, and if y’all keep adding in stupid retro clips to those too, not even Tasha makes it fun to watch.
