The QJ's Return - Iowa Interstate 6988, Oxford Excursion 2021

After a disappointing, steamless, 2020, Iowa Interstate's QJ 2-10-2 steam locomotive (6988) runs the rails again this year. The day is August 21, 2021, and the railroad/steam crew will run a total of 5 passenger excursions out of Oxford, Iowa. Each excursion will stop in Coralville, Iowa, where the diesel (IAIS 700, EMD GP38-2) will pull the train back to Oxford.

I was writing that train. Very hot that day, the old characters are very very cramped. But it was still enjoyable. The staff handed out sheets of paper with information on the locomotive specifications and history.

@@machanicalgu China ran steam far later than the US. For those wanting a steam loco to operate, it can be more cost-efficient to import a newer unit from China that needs less work than restoring an older US-native loco.

Nah, they acquired the chinese steamer from rj cormon I think. Steamer itself is sorta new

Love this Rail Road. Was In Geneseo ILL. 3 YEARS AGO And the crew of an IAIS Ethanol Train were so Friendly. The train was out of Silvus Yard

IAIS 6988 is now in Silvis and will eventually get an overhaul etc for the 1472. There is a diesel excursion this weekend in Malcom. Follow the CSSPA for info on upcoming Steam events
