This video is of Queen Elizabeth II officially opening the North Wing of St Thomas's Hospital in November 1976. This is part 3 of 4. There were several different camera angles and some are better quality than others and are spread over the 4 videos. There is no sound. I believe this is the only copy in existence. This starts with footage of the Revolving Torsion Fountain by Naum Gabo (1972).
There is a back story to this as well. Both my parents were there that day and were told that no photographs were allowed as official photographs and films would be produced for later. However, none materialised, even though there were official camera people there. By coincidence, 20 years later, my parents bumped into a guy at a party who was working in the archive of St Thomas's Hospital and who had just found all the original film of this sitting in a box having had nothing done to it since it was first shot. When my parents explained that they had wanted to see the film for 20 years, this guy put the entire footage onto a video for my parents, and my Dad can be seen chatting to The Queen. As far as I know, this was the only copy ever made. Which is a shame, as there are hundreds of people in the videos who have never seen this footage. Hence, I'm putting it on KZbin - hopefully other people will remember this as well.
The footage is also a nice period piece of 1970s state of the art hospital facility. Unfortunately the Queen didn't appear to take a trip on the infamous St Thomas's Paternoster lifts that were used by staff until the late 1980s and there is no footage of them.
