For her Golden Jubilee year, The Queen reflected on the celebrations which had taken place around the UK and Commonwealth, and looked forward to the challenges of the future. In that same year, The Queen also reflected on the memory of her mother and sister, who died within a few weeks of each other.

It was a momentous year for her wasn’t it. It’s amazing how our perspective also changes over the years. 20 years ago I was 28 and in that crowd in london ok jubilee weekend. Now I’m 48, The Queen is still here and I’m looking forward to her diamond jubilee although I live abroad now!

I am glad I watched this. The Queens message at Christmas is always an inspiration, and filled with hope and Love for the future. This is an older video but the message is timeless. A bitter sweet year for her majesty, Her sister died in February and then her mother, seven weeks later at the end of March. And The Queen was celebrating her Golden Jubilee. I can't Imagine what this year was like for her, she was the strongest, sweetest, ruler I've ever studied, her Dad was the same. She knew how much it was also hard on her family too, as she had been throug it when her father was king. What a burden she had to live with, and worst knowing it would be her children's, then grandchildren one day too. Knowing it should have never been their responsibiltity must have eaten at her. I don't think she would have ever even complained to others once still. I'm so grateful she had Prince Philip to support her. After he past I didn't think she would have long sadly. That's true love for you though, what a gift. I wish always he got named King to suite just how amazing he was for her 😔. Prince Philip never could give her his name, never was in charge even in that era was always there for her. To think she held that crown, for her entire life, so she would bare the weight, not her children and grandchildren. Give them the best life they could live in their situation for as long as humanly possible, all the way till death. You have all my respect and always will. Rest well Xxx.

After Elizabeth II died, there was much publicity, not so much thought about why she matters, and why monarchy is helpful in general. Monarchy shouldn't be used as real-life soap opera, nor as mere material to fill space in the media. The achievement of the British monarchy should become clear in comparison with the histories of other countries. In the 19th & 20th centuries the U.S.A, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Spain and Greece suffered in various ways civil wars, political storms, and dictatorships. This shows what can go wrong in the absence of a head of state which is above politics, and which opposes illegal dictatorship. If there are many reasons England, Wales, Scotland, Canada and Australia have had no civil war since Culloden in 1746, having a constitutional monarchy to unify all the people is an important reason. In the UK, 'peace' in formal speech is "The King's Peace". Of course King Charles III's first marriage was a tragic mistake; Prince Philip could be tactless, and he & Elizabeth II made mistakes as parents. Whatever mistakes the royal family have made, let us be grateful for the unity the monarchy gives in the UK & the world. The sea around it didn't protect the U.S.A. against civil war in the 1860s, and the UK could have suffered civil war over slavery in the 19th century; likewise over world war, loss of empire, economic failure, or race in the 20th. There will always be violence and political problems in the world, and billions of people who know or understand nothing of the British monarchy and the stability it brings Britain, the commonwealth (e.g. Canada & Australia). By stabilizing Britain & the commonwealth, it promotes peace in the world. Since the 1700s, billions of people have lived under the British crown without civil war, lynching, dictatorship in their lives. God save King Charles III, and his successors.

The limitations of videotape unfortunately. I'd have to assume though that this was the result of it being taped from VCR rather than the inherent quality of the master tape. Sidenote though, you have a remarkable faith in the quality of 1940s video. But it isn't a fair comparison, considering any video from the 40s would like be on film, which can be remastered far better than videotape.
