This was a brilliantly presented video about Jeffrey Hudson, who definitely deserves a film or TV series about his life
@allanbartonАй бұрын
Agreed he really does - piecing together the scant evidence of his life is difficult, there are so many gaps in his biography that it would be fascinating to fill in.

A beautiful and sensitive exploration of a melancholy life. I was reminded of Walter de Mare’s poignant novel about a woman with proportionate dwarfism Thank you.

Jeffrey Hudson saw and experienced so much in his life. It is such an incredible tale on so many fronts Allan. Even living to 63 after all he experienced was an achievement! It wouldn't have been easy being the court curiousity hence his feistiness. Thank you for sharing this slice of history. You always have such great stories!

Fascinating story, and so well presented. Thank you, Allan. There are numerous cases, I believe, of dwarves and other "oddities" of humanity capturing the interest of royal courts. This one is among the better documented. As ever, I am in your debt for a wonderful video.I hope your Advent season is progressing joyfully.

Jeffery Hudson had quite a life. I have always been amazed by proportionate dwarfism. All the dwarves in the wizard of oz are proportionate dwarves. Proportionate dwarves are exactly that, proportionate and exactly like a normal human but in miniature. They lack all the health problems of the more common type of dwardism but since their trunks are proportionate and not normal like the trunk of the more xommon type of dwarf, i believe child birth is a near impossibility for a proportionate dwarf. If they were to have a genetically normal pregnamcy, it would kill them i think where as the more xommon type dwarf is perfectly capable of having even normal sized children despite the health problems that accompany that type of the genetic disorder.

I am so glad you love it Liane - that's just how I hope people enjoy it. You'll have to wait a little longer for it this month I'm afraid, as there are delays at the printer and Christmas mail to contend with. Merry Christmas when it comes.

Whilst it very much sucks to fall from Queen's pet/military rank with attendants to poverty, it must surely be worse to be a pirate magnet. What bad luck, to cross the sea three times and only the first time uncaptured!

Thank you Allan. I too wish we we knew more about him, what a spirit he must have had inside that tiny body. Nowadays we think, how awful to sell your child and how awful to make a joke and a show of his disabilities, but he'd probably not have survived otherwise.

I once read that the village of Worsted, in Norfolk, had a period when a lot of children were born with dwarfism. At that time, this ensured the village a certain notoriety and financial fortune, as the children were exported to courts throughout Europe. After a while the congenital dwarfism stopped, and a method of causing stunted growth was developed to artificially continue the supply. Unfortunately, I have never come across any other reference to this. Perhaps my fellow viewer has?

Wow, another person we’ve never heard of but who had such an interesting, and fulfilling life. I think he had a bit of a complex which made him a tad ‘touchy’. Sad in a way, if he’d stayed with Henrietta Marie perhaps he would have more than a paupers grave. Still, to be remembered 400 odd years later - pretty good. 🙏🙏🙏👵🇦🇺

What a story! Do you think that Peter Dinklage would consent to play Jeffrey? He automatically popped up in my mind as you told Jeffrey’s story.

Great vid Allan, would you know if there's more published accounts of slavery under the Barbary Pirates? I'm guessing this wasn't uncommon yet we know next to nothing about this part of our naval history ✌️ 🇬🇧
@CrowSkeletonАй бұрын
You want to look up books by using the term "corsair", perhaps particularly by Irish authors given the concentration of slave-raiding there.
