They wanted to dedicate episodes of him staying at Harrenhal and being a shit about it, but couldn't figure out how to have him be loyal to his queen again, so they just had the magic plot device tell him it was destiny. Haleana being a dreamer (and autistic?) is completely show made up. Dreamers only have weird promonition metaphorical-like dreams and never this super accurate stuff Haleana is having. Her being able to contact people in it too is just stupid.

Apparently, this season was originally 10 episodes long but was cut to 8 episodes. One of the producers said that wasn't their choice and although they made some tweaks to the script, this cut did affect the finale. Which also means that a portion of the plot specifically, a major battle, was moved to Season 3.

Fun fact about Daemon - He is a Targaryen supremacist. He loves and appreciates all pure-blooded Targaryens and Velaryons. His & Visery’s parents are Alyssa Targaryen & Baelon Targaryen or Baelon the Brave. They are both pure-blooded Targs. They are the children of Jahaerys and good Queen Alyssane who were also brother & sister. Daemon dislikes mudding the line with “outsiders” or people who aren’t the blood of the dragon. ALL Targaryens have Velaryon blood through Alyssa Velaryon, so that is why Daemon was fine with marrying a Velaryon (Laena) and appreciates their house. They are also the blood of old Valyria. Daemon doesn’t fuck w/ Hightowers obviously, so he hated that his brother married Alicent. Also, it’s worth mentioning that Visery’s first wife, Rhaenyra’s mother Emma, has Targaryen blood through her parents.

Yeah, I know that the source material for Daemon at this point in the war is quite limited and they needed to separate him and Rhaenyra for that moment of him bending the knee to feel significant, but they could've at least had him fly around to some of the nearby lords and negotiating with them in their castles rather than just have him paralysed in that decrepit castle for an entire season. It got old fast.

He gained the allegiance of House Blackwood, but then House Bracken refused to submit even under threat of death, and then Daemon pissed off the rest of the riverlords by endorsing brutal, violent crimes. He was literally stuck in limbo until Alys went and assassinated Grover Tully for him, and even then he only really gained Oscar Tully’s allegiance because Oscar Tully happened to be someone who respected oaths, not because of anything Daemon did. I don’t think Daemon being in Harrenhal the entire season was the issue, I think the issue was that Daemon was a completely passive character that’s constantly just reacting to things happening to him, rather than an active character who’s making things happen / driving the plot forward through his own choices/actions

Not gonna lie, as a fan of both the book and season 1... this wasn't the adaptation that could've been. It's not even about cutting things from the book, that much is expected. Is about tv producers/writers thinking they are somehow better at telling a story than the author. They added things that only padded this already slow season and shot themselves at the foot with certain added scenes. 5/10 season, the scriptwriters have a tough job steering the third one towards an entertaining product. Hopefully they don't go on strike again during production. Edit: Also, it's funny that while making him worse than he is in the book (which already painted him as a not very pleasant prince), they managed to make Aegon the most engaging character out of everyone in the season. Team Black without a (sober) Daemon is just so damn boring. Where is Rhaenyra's rage and arrogance from Season 1? Where is Alicent's devious protection of her family that we saw in Season 1? Rhaenyra is just "white privilege Gandhi" and Alicent seems to have a different personality in every episode. Hopefully the Seven will grant us a better season next time.

There was a triarchy commander like this in the books named Racallio Ryndoon-they’ve merged him with Lohar who is barely described apart from being a triarchy Admiral. Ryndoon often wore a dress, had multiple wives who he preferred pregnant, but clearly was a man who died his hair and beard blue. It’s not mentioned if Ryndoon played much of a role in the Dance-he led the fleet that attacked the Stepstones between Daemon and Corlys conquering them and the Dance and he survived into the reign that follows the Dance.

Don’t even get me started on Rhaenyra because although Daemon and Alicent have had epiphanies this season and have accepted their parts in creating this whole mess, Rhaenyra hasn’t grown or learned anything at all. She didn’t want to pay a price for having three illegitimate sons, which she KNEW she wasn’t supposed to do. She didn’t even have respect for convention enough to pick a man to father her children who looked like her husband. She hid behind Viserys to keep the gossip about the boys’ parentage quiet, but she never thought about what would happen after Viserys died. If Jace had been legitimate, she could have brokered that marriage pact she suggested between Jace and Helaena. But, instead, it was an insult to Alicent that her legitimate daughter, a princess, should marry a bastard. Rhaenyra significantly weakened her position in more ways that one by having children with a man who didn’t look like her husband. She showed that she didn’t care for social convention. It’s true that the Targaryen princes had a lot of bastards, as we saw, but they didn’t try to pretend that they were legitimate. Plus, Rhaenyra wasn’t inside the system, yet. She tried to ignore the rules for the sexes before she had real power and that was unwise. You have to gain power first and then you can change things. Even then, the change won’t happen all at once. Look at this country. America has been a nation for over 200 years and people are still clutching their pearls over the thought of a female President. If you don’t like someone’s policies, fine. But, the fact that they’re a woman shouldn’t have anything to do with it. Westeros has been stuck as a medieval society for *thousands* of years. It’s lasted longer than the Roman Empire. And, Rhaenyra thinks she’s going to change how people think in one instant. It’s pure hubris. Unfortunately, I don’t think Rhaenyra is going to realize how much she contributed to her own downfall until it’s too late.

Rhaenera has never once done what she was meant to do because she was basically daddy’s princess and he enabled her bad behavior even though it would be her downfall. Don’t get me wrong, I think all these characters are very flawed but I feel like people give Alicent so much flak when all her life she has tried to do is what she was told and what is expected of her (she’s still made a lot of mistakes). I feel like people forget that she was a whole child bride who was tossed into the situation with no one to defend her (her dad basically pimped her out, her mother was dead, and she was all alone in King’s Landing). Meanwhile Rhaenera has broken the rules in spite of the potential risk. It just irks me how few people see both sides of the coin

They axed a lot of characters, Nettles included (she's my favorite, alongside Daemon), they killed Sunfyre which makes Rhaenyra's ending obsolete, and a lot of other mistakes. I have 0 faith in these writers, especially Sara Hess, who hates Daemon's character "with a passion" (sic)
