Mike, you need to freeze colostrum from the other cows. Uncle used to do it every season. Every cow he could get in a head stall, he would empty one quarter to freeze. Frozen in one feeding size bags.

I raise Nigerian Dwarf goats and that is exactly what I do. I always grab some colostrum from my mommas even if it is a half a cup. That milk is like GOLD ! Sadly some animals are just not good moms! We do the best we can! Love your show!

If you have raised a few animals on a farm/ranch, you've probably tube fed a few. Goats, sheep, horses, calves, etc. Many times tube feeding is truly a life saver. Nice to see all sides of your ranch....its almost always cold and when you are worn out, that these little emergencies appear. Have a blessed day!

Mike, just an FYI. LOL it's NOT "L" GG... it's "I" GG which stands for Immuno Gamma Globulin. Just an FYI, NOT a criticism. I am an EMT, and a childbirth and breastfeeding consultant and educator. (The same IGGs are in HUMAN breastmilk.) In Fact they are perfectly suited to EACH mammal's newborn individually, for that species. As an example, baby cows need to be able to stand and walk right after birth, so they need specialized Colostrum to help them with muscle control and being able to stay close to mom and stand up to eat, etc. Baby humans need to use their brains first, and need to learn first, human babies are completely cared for and carried around by mom (and dad) so brain development is the most important for baby humans first. Just kind of cool the way each mammal's milk is perfect for each mammal and changes with the age of the baby. 😊 Just thought you might find this interesting and so may the others who watch your videos. Jeff truly loved that calf. Hearing him talk to that baby struck a chord in my heart. As a 3 time NICU/CCNICU Mommy, I have heard Moms and Dad's talking to their babies the way Jeff talked to that calf... And THAT is special!! He is a very special man and your ranch is blessed to have him as are the cows and certainly us!! Thank you Jeff for all you do and the compassion you show!

Nice to see the calf sucking on the bottle. I watch the Dairy on the Prairie, they had a very small calf recently. They bottle or bucket feed all of their calves.

Ranchers all over the country, even continent, all have the same problems and we sympathize with your issues. We also had a wee baby heifer two years ago, the mama died, and she ended up a bottle calf. It was remarkable this heifer's tenacity for life, and we eventually sold her with some weaned calves. We also lost an old cow last week, who served us well, gave us healthy twins last year but her calf this year died internally and there was nothing we could do for the cow, she also died. I cried many tears as I loved this old cow and I will miss her.

What a CUTE little girl!!! Love that sweet white face and pink nose!!! 🥰 My Grandpa always milked one teat out for colostrum to freeze, and let the new calf milk on the other three. That way, if an 'orphan' needed that good start, it was readily available. I remember that he used the supply, every year, at some point. You guys are sure earning your cowboy stripes this season. I'm praying things improve REAL soon!!! 🙏

"We're like child protective services" just cracked me up. Oh, Mike, sometimes the words and phrases you use are just so spot on that they are hilarious to me. I understand how dangerous these situations can be, and I'm not laughing at that at all. It's just how you try to lighten these stories. I want you to know they don't go unnoticed. Please tell Mackenzie (sp) that I saw her in the video when you all were packaging up frozen meat and she was helping and I absolutely LOVE her haircut. Not a lot of people can pull that haircut off, but she does it amazingly.

I have suffered some health issue which caused my weight to drop significantly. I lost 20% of my body weight. So I feel for Cow 10 on a personal level. I hope you guys can help her out so she can at least provide the farm with quality beef. Little calf is such a cutie pie! I hope she thrives and becomes a great Momma cow in a few years. Sandi brock and Cam the sheep game always check the teats of new moms. Until them I didn't realize this was an issue.

I think it is called stripping. Sometimes the teats have plugs in them. Sandi said that the first year she lost a lot of lambs because of these plugs. I wonder if it is less of a problem in cows because Sandi grew up on a dairy farm and she would have taken care of baby calves and their moms. I think stripping teats would be dangerous with these big angus mommas.
