VHS was such a craptastic format. Back when it was basically all we had, I thought it couldn't get any worse until I bought a VHS-C camcorder. Literally it's only advantage was it's small size. 8mm should have been the clear winner at the time but the compatibility with the VHS VCRs was almost certainly the only reason these things sold in any numbers. Camcorders in general were very expensive toys in those days.

I scored 32 sealed blank VHS tapes today for $32 from my local Value Village. Most of them were sold in sets of five for $4.99, but I kept finding more and more sets every time I checked the shelves in the office supplies area of the store and they were various brands including JVC, Maxell, RCA, and Memorex. :)

I have an original VHS-C adaptor that's been stored with all the VHS-C tapes my parents have held onto. Do you think it would still work if I load the VHS-C and then take the battery out? I tried playing and none of the 3-4 VHS-C tapes are playing properly. The video is almost impossible to make out. But playing normal VHS tapes is fine.

Looks like the qwick and cleaned. My family never used this format. I got waaay tooo many VHS 📼. Some of the interesting ones in the collection: --Instruction video how to use windows '95. --Somebodys home video of there Hawaiian vacation. (Gee thanks. Now i don't hafta spend 💸 to go there and make a home video) --Some couples wedding. (guess they got divorced since they wanted to sell the tape) The groom had a 5 gallon bucket of bird seed dumped on him. --Some vhs of a Skype meeting of kmart managers and corporate people talking business. --a copy of behind the green door that looks like some wife got ahold of it decades ago and recorded over a soap opera onto the tape. Wife wasn't gonna let husband looky at that! Part of the tape is chewed up. Too funny.

7:50 - Oh, that's how it works. For some reason, I was thinking since it's non-motorized, you had to somehow manually tension the tape into the leads yourself 🤦♂️🤦♂️. So relieved that isn't the case!

yes I thought this too!!!!! I was very happy to see that it wasn't and immediately went to make this video lol

@@YasmineCollects Lol, I really, really appreciate you making this video. Because I did turn a bit reluctant on the idea of getting a non-motorized adapter and I didn't want to risk damaging and rendering them unplayable. 😬 But after a little research and with your video, I'll be purchasing one from eBay soon!

Thats pretty cool. I did not know that battery-less VHS-C adapters existed, and I was a child of the 80s. I had the Panasonic you showed us, that one never failed for me, maybe I didn't use it enough? Gotta love the HiFi man on your Maxell adapter, enjoying his high volume sound, I am reminded of that from some early ad from my childhood, where was that? Was it really Maxell?

I remember this Panasonic adapter being amazing as a kid, granted I was like 11 messing around with stuff I had no business sneaking into 😂 but the issue I think is battery corrosion, mechanical errors and a higher chance of things going wrong when you’re not the one pushing that tape up. I would like to open this Panasonic and see what those gears are looking like. Had the battery been removed I’m confident it would still work but based off my research other people have said their shelf lives are just short

1:18 looks like someone else does too lol. "Maxwell" is actually a knockoff of Maxell, and Cassette Comeback has reviewed "Maxwell" audio cassettes in addition to real Maxell ones haha.

might have missed it, but can you rewind these once they are in the VHS player?
