This is one of my dream decks, unfortunately extremely rare in Finland... Standing alone it's not that sexy because of the crazy height vs depth -ratio, but the full stack together looks just amazing! Also, build quality seems to be what you would expect for a Braun; reliable and serviceable :)

Lovely tape deck, a real interesting piece. Can’t believe someone would actually chuck that away !

I had this deck, the amplifier and the tuner. Mine were a little older though. They were a lovely little set, very quirky. The amp was only abt 30wpc but sounded great. Cheers, thanks for the memory.

i owned the ADS version of this deck and the matching receiver in the mid 80's through mid 90's. both seemed really well built and worked flawlessly during my time with them.

I once inherited the entire ADS Setup in black. It looked a lot better than it sounded. Did have KOOL factor.

I only know Braun for their electric razors. These tray loading tape decks are so cool.

Got an ads C2/3 tape deck for the last 3 years with a cd player CD4 and a Braun A1 integrated amp. Lovely tape deck. The whole combo works nicely along with a pair of ads speakers (what else!). It is a breath of fresh air - simplicity and functionality - compared to high end gear that I also own. Your video is very nice, maybe include a audio sample next time, instead of only a very accurate narrative.

First time I've ever seen both Dolby C and FeCr tape selection, There can't have been long where they were both a thing.
@kevinhickman503 жыл бұрын
I suspect the FeCr was intended for backward compatibility, as you noted, it was gone before Dolby C was released. I've also not seen a deck with both FeCr and Metal, although I would be less surprised by that. I know the Onkyo 630D was FeCr and the 630DM was Metal. Exact same deck except for that. Also, it was only sold in 1982. The C3 came out in 83 and was sold for several years, did not have FeCr.

I have a realistic deck that has all 4 tape types.

This one's probably from 1983 or 1984; that's when tape decks with FeCr and Dolby C decks: think Sony's TC-K777ES.

Denon and Sony were hangouts for type III, I think they both gave up about 1985.

Did you say the C2 was the only tape deck they've made? Yes, the only one except for the C1, C3, C2³ and C4. 😁

Interested in your thoughts on vintage ADS/Braun speakers.

I listen to ADS speakers. Have a ADS 2030 and 910 speakers. Excellent sounding. Sold my ADS 1230 and 810s to a friend. He’s having a bl@st. They are awesome sounding with VINCENT Hybrid Tube Amp

Braun made beautiful components, as a university student in the early 70's I envied those who could afford them. I Ioved the look, quality, tactile operational and sound of their components (TG1000 series reel-to-reel decks were special) Like good components in their day, they were serviceable. QUAD produced a "Braun version" of their ESL 57. ADS of the US offered re-branded versions of their components and some of their loudspeakers. Sadly the Asian invasion of audio components killed Braun's audio division and it morphed into a mass-producer of small consumer appliances. I highly disagree with the technician about the Tandberg and especially Nakamichi cassette decks (with their fiddly knobs and plastic cogs & gears) constantly requiring re-biasing with each tape played - The Revox B710 and B215 were and still are tops.

I am traveling for vacation and found not one but two Nakamichi 505 CD players said to be in working condition. $650-$699. Is the their best model? Price good?
@fendergibs3 жыл бұрын
I think at that time the Nakamichi CD7A Mark II, was there a top-of-the-line. I believe their absolute reference is a Nakamichi CD dragon separates

The colour is called "crystal grey". Apple copied it. Yours is a sandy colour because it came from a household of smokers. Automotive cutting compound or "Brasso" will clean it up.
@MLX14013 жыл бұрын
Not true :( This deck is definitely not stained by smoke! What an useless comment.
