The Ski World Cup downhill race in the Italian resort of Val Gardena is one of the most challenging on the tour, known for its spectacular jumps.

I had the pleasure of skiing this fantastic run last season. This video really doesn't do the run justice.

If you can, go there in person. It's ridiculous to imagine hitting those jumps at over 100 km/h. When you stand on the hill it really is a cliff
@jacktheworst5 жыл бұрын
Did it between 90 and 100km/h. Quite scaring but totally worth.

@@maciejponka3319 It's a completely different beast, an entirely different sport. You prepare for what you are doing. Is ski jumping impressive? Yeah, as hell. Is flying over 50m without the ski jumping technique impressive, especially that on some slopes you do it after 1 or even 2 minutes (Wengen, smaller jump just before the finish but still a jump) so tired you cannot feel your legs and all the blood from your head goes to the lower muscles so you are not far from blacking out at times, travelling at 100+kmph while turning and going through bumps? It's also pretty badass.

@@staszewaM yeah you are right, I really feel respect for alpine skiing but I have never tried it profesionally (mayby one day I hope). I love extreme sports and that is why I practise ski jumping. I mentioned about it because it is not as much popular sport as alpine skiing

I used to train alpine skiing, we would usually train in Pitztal or Kaunertal and as much as those places are good and efficient for training, I had most fun and freedom on Italian slopes and would return there later on for leisure. The beautiful landscapes, tasty food, great weather, solid slope preparation, beautiful women and chilled out atmosphere cannot be topped for me :)

When i was here last year there was a little girl that fell on the last part of Saslong B. It took 5 people to help her and 30 minutes to get her down. I have never laughed that hard because of skiing in my life. The next day an emergency helicopter landed there and took someone from Saslong A. Did some research and found out someone got seriously injured during the Camel Jumps.

@kayakutah7 жыл бұрын
Isn't the winning time around 1:55? 4 minutes seems quite reasonable for a good skier just messing around.
@Gorantaylis7 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is, but the winners A) have to turn in for checkpoints and B) have a slightly different course to the piste, so if they were just going down the exact route I did and didn't have to turn between the gates they would've done in it in 1:35 at least.

You know what is acually impressive? Ski flying. They jump up to 250 meters there.
@staszewaM3 жыл бұрын
You know what? Both are impressive. I used to train alpine skiing as a junior, barely starting to train some Super-G and we would attempt some small jumps, up to 15 meters and much slower speeds and it still was pretty thrilling. Posting from my other comment: It's a completely different beast, an entirely different sport.
