Harry Truman did indeed want to explore the possibility of purchasing Greenland from Denmark. This was stated by Trump at his press conference. TrUman opened negotiations in secret and was informed that Denmark did not wish to sell. Negotiations were entered into in a calm way as to what could be done as a compromise as Denmark saw that America was worried about the threat from Russia. This compromise took place with America being able to have some bases in Greenland. This was done without the use of threats of the use of economic or military tactics to try to force Denmark to do as the United States wanted. Nor was the issue seen as as a means for publicity or political gain. Trump cannot use how Harry Truman handled the situation as a validation fpr what he is doing. He is trying to bully Denmark into acquiescing. and falsifying history means nothing to him. Maybe that long ago act of Congress that he always used to talk about maybe used to help him.
