Amazing, informative, and very enjoyable video. I’m not an avid listener of Misha’s music, and by that I mean, I have limited experience with it. But I can definitely hear the magic of these pickups and watching these guys go through the process of design has helped my level of understanding tremendously. Well done!!

I really appreciate this video, watching how in depth that they get with constructing every finite detail and the fact that they blind test these without prior knowledge to relieve bias. I'm looking into these pickups for a high end ESP and this certainly helps with my decision.

I've always heard that Nolly was actually the best guitar player in Periphery. I wonder if that was ever in the back of his head. I remember being the best guitar player in a band I joined in college, but wound up getting stuck on bass because the band was formed by a couple other guys first, and that's where I slotted in. It was frustrating. Not saying that's why Nolly left, he had legitimate reasons for wanting to take his life in a different direction, but I wonder how often he got the urge to be one of the guitarists in the band.
@skubadoobie7 жыл бұрын
Crummock iPhail I’m pretty sure he plays a lot of guitar in periphery, like in the studio tracking and the writing process. He’s too good not to write at least a couple of riffs I assume. So it’s not like he stopped playing guitar for the band but just performs bass in the band. That’s how I view it, cus Nolly is super talented just to be a guitarist or just a bassists.
@peepeepoopookaka7 жыл бұрын
The only situation where he wasn't a 'guitarist' in the band was live. He wrote many of the main riff in many songs (including the omega title track) and you can see him tracking guitars throughout various studio updates dating backing to P2. He was even on P1, he played the shredding solo on totla mad!
@lukebogartmix7 жыл бұрын
I think he really liked playing bass. He's said that he began to focus on his bass playing over guitar, and as with playing guitar for the band, he plays guitar and writes and records riffs just as everyone else does. Prayer Position was a total Nolly riff-guitar song. Whatever calls for Nolls' playing on guitar he'll play, or if he writes a riffs, it's just the same as everyone else's. I think it didn't really matter at all that he wasn't a guitar player, because of the skill level of everyone in the band. I remember he was saying on the URM podcast that being in Periphery, in terms of guitarists, is being spoiled, cause they're all incredible guitarists, practically capable of playing anything anyone writes, and whoever was recording the part was up to who's style sounded the best.

In the past I have only replaced passive Pickups so I don't know a lot about active pickups and their interchangeability. I currently have a set of EMGs (81/85 I think) in one of my guitars and from the moment I got that guitar thought about replacing them sometime in the future. What problems could I run into if I was to replace just the bridge with one of these?
@ChazzyMcD7 жыл бұрын
svelle When going from active to passive you will have to change the volume and tone pots 500k is usually for passives. You will also have to get an output jack socket that works for passives.
@ChazzyMcD7 жыл бұрын
If you only replaced the bridge you would be left with a non working emg in the neck so i would recommend saving up for the bridge and neck pickups.

If only Tim put this kind of effort into anything but Djent pickups.. how wonderful that would be. They might have a real diversity in their product line. As it stands now, aside from the "modern" types none of their other categories have been updated in 10+ years. Not a fan of this.
