Thanks for doing this review on Rahway. I was born in Rahway in 1952 and recognize all of the streets in your video. Rahway's hayday lasted up through 1970. Everything you needed to buy was in town. Then the malls and strip malls came and a lot of ma and pop shop businesses closed up. The train tracks running right through the middle of town use to divide the white and black homeowners with a few exceptions. I know of two black families that lived on the west side of the tracks. While growing up, Rahway was essentially white and black with two Hispanic and no Asians. It was about 80/20. However, most got along w/o any issues. C+ for school is about right. Rahway use to have a lot of industry such as Purolator, Regina Vacuum, Quin and Boden Book Binding Co, Proctor and Gamble and a lot others. Merk is still there. So, there was basically no unemployment when I was growing up. There was unfortunately discrimination when it came to employment is some sectors of employment. Asa kid, I saw no blacks working in Woolworths nor W.T. Grants, both on Main St. Nor at McCoreys on Cherry ST. That was the norm back then. My father actually designed city hall, the fire station at New Brunswick & Main and a host of houses, schools, churches all throughout Union, Middlesex, Essex and other counties.

Thank you for doing a video about my hometown of Rahway, New Jersey. The families that live in Rahway, before the 1980’s go back generations in my hometown. It looks like what made Rahway such a great place to grow up and live is not a secret anymore.

Thanks for the comment Shawnie! Yes, Rahway tends to fly under the radar but has some really great neighborhoods and a vibrant downtown scene!

You failed to identify the desirable area on the west side. The Inman Heights section from Madison Hill Rd, Lake Ave to Bramhall road adjacent to Colonia and Clark. Most homes and properties are well maintained within that area of Rahway.

Thanks for the comment @phil-fw2ib! Please note that the objective of my episodes are not to cover every neighborhood of each town. It is a reflection on recent sales over the past 30 days and notable features within the town. With that being said, you are right to point out the very desirable west side neighborhoods.

My property taxes in Virginia is $1,200 for the entire year and my house is 3000 SF 2 acres. Nj is a rip off with taxes.
