RIP Bernard Cribbins. Such a versatile actor and I loved him in this film.

I visited Oakworth Station on a summer afternoon some years ago. In between the trains I simply sat on the platform & enjoyed the solitude whilst letting bits of the film play in my head. A magical couple of hours - I treasure the memory.

I saw this movie in America in the 1970s when I was very young. It left a great impression on me. I already loved locomotives but it also fostered a love for British film.

Dinah Sheridan remained a natural beauty right up to the end of her life.I only wish she had made more films between “Genevieve” and “The Railway Children” ; she would have been perfect for “The Deep Blue Sea” and “The Reluctant Debutante”.Thank you.

Yes. It was Dinah Sheridan that I fancied even more than Jenny Agutter. I was 15 when that film came out.

This was posted by Ray Doyle but for some reason it does not show in 'Comments' : I've been to all these locations too. But one. The show with triangular gate coping stone. How did you get that shot? I know throat if the house is completely different now. If you go to the little Hamlet of Wycombe, about 8 miles from Oxenhope, usually find the little hump bridge Bobby is sitting on when the Doctor picks her up in his carriage. Its not changed at all.

Thank you for your comment Ray. The shots with the triangular coping stone were taken within the grounds of Bents Cottage which of course is private property. Since the film was made the field with the gate that the children walk towards (at 6:01) where the stone can be seen is in fact now the end of the private garden and the wall has become overgrown and hides that stone. The one seen in the video is in fact on the opposite side of the garden.

I heard recently that they’re thinking of making an “up to date” version. If so, goodness knows what woke abominations will violate it.

They have just finished filming what is a sequel. It is based in the second world war so a generation or two after the original. Jenny Agutter plays either mother or grandmother. There were marquees up in Oxenhope for weeks.

Well.....you were right. As per our fears, they have taken one of our most beloved British films and killed it, out of the constant need for "inclusion". So when do they have Benny Hill playing Martin Luther King.
