Colin, I was capped to watch your video about Chester-le-street Station ! I worked there in or around 1960. I was a clerk in the parcel and ticket office. At the time one train hauled by a steam engine from York to Newcastle left at 8.15 via Gateshead West and arrived in Newcastle at about 8.40 from over the High Level Bridge. Only about 10 passengers joined at Chester. the bus to Worswick Street or Marlborough Crescent to a good 40 minutes, usually packed to the rafters with folk off to work in the toon ! The building you asked about I believe was the weighbridge and goods office. One of the other buildings was used. by an animal feed firm called Silcocks. Feed arrived for sheep and cattle by railway truck to be stored ready for collection by the livestock farmer or to be delivered by the railway company to farms in the outlying district! Pigeon fanciers used to bring their pigeons in a basket to be sent on a to a destination such as Northallerton York or Doncaster for a practice flight, eventually to join a race from a far distant destination. There used to be a Station Master who hailed from somewhere like Hawick - a hard nosed Scot who referred to us as Sasancks ! The goods yard was looked after by a Foreman 2 or 3 porters and 2 drivers for 3 wheeled articulated Scammels for delivering goods around the shops and factories in the area. And finally, the signal cabin at the north end of the Station kept the lines safe! That’s about all I remember, after all it’s about 60 years ago, and a lot has changed in that time! Fascinating stuff, and very enjoyable - good luck with your endeavours! Phillip Holden MBE

Another fine video Colin . I just noticed on your video that the trains have changed . The last time I was on a train, I was going to Newcastle then to the RVI . I was preoccupied about being told by the optician that I had a mass on my left optical nerve and needed to see a eye doctor about it . I somehow knew what it was and was in very deep thought about and I didn't really notice what was happening. Despite not having any previous signs of a tumour or anything being wrong I was told it was coming out the following morning. Start of my health problems. But as I my good friend Barbara tells me often, I am still here causing trouble as usual. LOL . Thanks again for great videos Mate .

@@colinthegeordiehistorian10 This happened in August 2012 . The thing that got me was I missed the Olympics. LOL . That was the start of my health problems with cancer being the main factor . I am getting on with life but the main thing that is getting to me is not being allowed to drive as I can fall asleep in seconds without feeling tired . Looking forward to the next video. Cheers Mate.

Colin the bridge was rusted to hell so they took it away but they are bringing it back when it has been reconditioned.
