There’s draft steals every class. If the Rams really thought Puka was going to be as good as this, they wouldn’t have gotten him on their *later* fifth round pick. I’m not saying the analytics doesn’t help, but let’s not overestimate it.
@marcusstrinidad5 ай бұрын
Yes and no. If you know he’s going to be there in the 5th you can try to take other talent in rounds 2-4 that you know won’t be there by the 5th round. So that way you can get all the players you want. Considering the Rams drafted Byron Young and Kobie Turner ahead of Puka, who both are fringe Pro Bowl caliber players in their rookie years means they could draft them AND Puka Nacua. Or else you end up like NE who drafted Cole Strange end of the 1st round when everyone had him 3rd-4th round. And he’s been a dud so far. If they took him at his projection then it wouldn’t be too awful AND they could’ve drafted someone else in the 1st. But they reached for someone they thought highly of and it backfired.

Most teams follow the rules they were taught. Which leaves them with the strengths and limitations of everyone else. There is nothing wrong with that. Until someone decides they don't want to play by those rules. Throughout history the most groundbreaking, world changing, iconic and legendary people all decided they weren't going to play by the same rules simply because everyone else was. Pretty much listen to renegades of funk to hear just a few of them. Rams are out here changing the game. TLDR :Rams are out here playing chess while most teams are still playing checkers.

Come on. Its not about the draft system. Its about getting players who fit the coach and then coach them. You think great players just happen from the draft? Puka has said he learned from Kupp and even wanted him to travel together to road games while on IR. People are naive to think things just drop from heaven.

Ive got an EASY method that seems to work. I could tell watching how Nacua moved in relation to guys around him that he was good. I'm just a fan who watches highlights, not film and i could tell. Because when you look at enough highlights for any position ( BUT multipke players), the ones who truly look " different " begin to stand out. Im a Chargers fan and was pissed we took QJ because i knew there were better reveivers like Puka. Same thing w/ our 2nd round pick , Tuli. I saw his quickness and strength stand out from other edge guys. Waa obvious to me, but i couldn't tell why others weren't high on him. He was our #3 edge behind Bosa and Mack. He'll have at least 10 sacks next year. Only system is finding the guys that look like men playing with boys, and who are reliable. Its not a private system. I never cared about combine crap. All these front offices areout thinking themselves.

I don't know what the hell Nick Caserio is doing but his methods need to be studied, Nico Collins and Tank Dell were both 3rd round picks, Christian Harris was also a 3rd round pick, Jarrett Patterson is a quality center from the 6th round, Jalen Pitre is a great safety from the 2nd, Dameon Pierce has struggled recently but he was great as a 4th round pick
