_Śrī Guruve-Gauracandrāya-namaḥ_ Hare Krishna, Prabhujī. All glories to you. You are the epitome of bhakti, providing inspiration to us. An amazing and fantastic lecture as usual. The verse of 11.9.29 of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam which states *"After many many births and deaths, one gets the human birth, **_which although temporary_** , affords one the opportunity to attain the highest perfection"* The description of the human body as temporary is a clear instruction to us to not get attached to this body and pamper it with all material comforts, but instead utilise it for realizing that we are not the body but the eternal servants of Krishna (jīvera svarūpa haya nitya krishna dāsa). The reference of the Padma Purāṇa of the various species of life which we through makes us realize how important and valuable the human birth is. We can certainly conclude that it is greatest gift the Lord gives us out of compassion upon seeing our miseries in animalistic species. Also it's thought provoking that how the human birth is unique from the species of birds, beasts and trees who only sleep, eat, mate and defend. The human birth is not meant for executing such trivial activities but to attain the highest perfection i.e. _krishna-bhakti_ . The words of Prahlāda Mahārāja in ŚB 7.6.1 to his friends that one should execute bhāgavata-dharma from the beginning of one's life perfectly fits with Śrīla Prabhupāda's own instructions to train the children of Krishna conscious householders in Krishna consciousness from the very beginning of their lives. Śrīla Prabhupāda's metaphor of comparing this human birth to a piece of wood, and that we should try to carve out the forms of Krishna out of it instead of wetting it material enjoyment is fantastic! I am also reminded by this metaphor a pastime of a great sage in Vrindāvana (pardon me I cannot remember the name) who was instructed by Guru that if a wood log is wet, it doesn't catch fire but when only is it completely dry does it catch fire. Similarly our sense are like these logs of wood, if they are wet with material enjoyment then they cannot catch the fire of Krishna-bhakti, but only when the senses are completely dry (devoid of sense pleasure) then do they easily catch the fire of bhakti. The 2.3.17 verse of ŚB makes us realize how the rising and setting of the sun is making us closer to our death every day. But those who describe and discuss the Lord, glorified by best poetry, get closer to Vaikuṇṭha not death. Also the analogy of the rat in the cat's mouth is going to die but at the same mouth does the kitten feel comfort. The cat is Krishna, and He is death to the rat-like atheists who are constantly running away from Him, but at the same time the devotees call to the Lord with all love and devotion and the Lord personally goes and picks them up. A thought which comes to my mind is that no one calls for death, but still death attacks whereas the devotees personally call the Lord and the Lord also reciprocates with them with love and affection. Jaya!!
