Sure it's a calming notion, perpetual in motion But it's not what you signed up for I'm sure there won't always be sunshine But there's this momentary beam of light You don't have to wait those salty decades To get through the gate, it's all in front of your face I'm sure there won't always be sunshine I'm sure there won't always be sunshine But there's this momentary beam of light I could cross the ocean in a fit of devotion For every shining second, this fragile body beckons You think you're owed it better believing ancient letters Sure it's a calming notion, but it's a lie...

I absolutely adore this songs underlying philosophical tone behind the immaculately upbeat and exhuberant progression. To me this song hits at face value, when you just absorb the lyrics and their immediate meaning.. to draw that vivid connection. Life is fragile, we all want comfort in it, some choose to live it for each and every new day, some fear the passage of time. No matter where you fall on life's spectrum of choice freedom, it's momentary and beckons you with a frail call. Each silent reminder much like the last, conveying that it can't last forever no matter how oblivious you may become to the innate certainty. One facet of the song that I'd imagine some people would've glossed over are the lyrics clearly referencing the proposition of eternal life through "salty" decades of devout worship to reach that final goal. Now I may have drawn that connection myself, perhaps with a hint of bias surfacing my interpretation, nonetheless the blatant grey area feels almost naturally there for you to reach a similar epiphany despite it not having said that directly. I'm essentially going full circle here trying to piece together the almost story like picture that is being described. Moving on, it very clearly attempts at illustrating 'falsehoods' claimed as indisputable truth in old 'letters' or scriptures. Anyone else catch onto any of the subtle undertones paving religious contradiction? To wrap, I suppose the song in one collective thought, is that there is no proper expectation to be had, loathsome lies for comfort isn't what this life is about, what's right in front of you is all you get. You fill in the rest. Because it's not just about the prospect that death brings, it's about living. Also to note, this is purely my personal interpretation. It is not intended to be hateful, disrespectful, or to speak distastefully of any religious minorities. The principle of our lives is that we have a say in the matter of what does and doesn't affect us, each decision is a mark of the path we all take as individuals. I cordially accept any criticisms some of you may have with my implicit exposition, though I'd kindly ask that it is kept constructive, and passive. I'm merely an enjoyer, much like the rest of you all.
@its_aj9572 жыл бұрын
I completely agree! The lyric “ You think you're owed it better believing ancient letters Sure it's a calming notion, but it's a lie” kind of sealed the deal for me, that’s obviously what they’re talking about lol

@@Asder5f Thinking back, I do find the need for it to be somewhat.. misplaced Though I really just don't like to take up a soap-box and assume a higher stance over those with differing views and lifestyles, it doesn't quite feel like my place. But aspect wise I'm just being inclusive to ensure everyone gets where I'm coming from, and realistically scrutinization is bound to happen. So I just want to hear what people have to say, if anything, because it's important to me.

As far as i know, the meaning of this song is having ideas of the afterlife being pushed onto you, and that if you don’t believe in it, you will burn. even though you don’t want it. I honestly relate to this- “Sure it’s a calming notion, perpetual in motion for i don’t need the comfort of any lies.” This song is also just really good and amazing.
@Dyumed9 ай бұрын
My interpretation was that this song means that living afraid of death will only waste your time, and you shouldn’t lie to yourself. Just go, do as much as you can before the limit runs up. “If you could pull the lever to live forever, would life have any meaning anymore?”

This actually hits home, initially when I listened to it I thought it was talking about religion but after watching the video it really hits hard for me. I was actually raised in a cult and my sibling and I have been healing and struggling with the transition of having left it now that we're adults. It's been 2 years for me. Very few people really get how much of a struggle it is just keeping your sanity, personahood and sense of self alive while it's being hunted down for the entirety of your childhood to early adulthood

Lyrics are Sure it's a calming notion, perpetual in motion But I don't need the comfort of any lies For I have seen the ending and there is no ascending Rise Oh, back when I was younger, was told by other youngsters That my end will be torture beneath the earth 'Cause I don't see what they see, when death is staring at me I see a window, a limit, to live it, or not at all If you could pull the lever to carry on forever Would your life even matter anymore? Sure it's a calming notion, perpetual in motion But it's not what you signed up for I'm sure there won't always be sunshine But there's this momentary beam of light You don't have to wait those salty decades To get through the gate, it's all in front of your face I'm sure there won't always be sunshine I'm sure there won't always be sunshine But there's this momentary beam of light I could cross the ocean in a fit of devotion For every shining second, this fragile body beckons You think you're owed it better believing ancient letters Sure it's a calming notion, but it's a lie

Sad, stuck in her own past because she’s reliving the best, as she already died during that fall, the grandpa, her will to live, but the memory is just fate, realizing she sings about her younger days as she is recalling, as a dead person would, she says she has seen the ending(her life) there is no ascending, because the cult did nothing, the grandpa helped her comeback, just to tell us, but realizes it’s already over for her, calming to finally rest in piece, a story with so many metaphors for me to understand, I enjoy that. Or that’s just some random cult trapping her
