Still have it after some 35 years. As a former DXer based in Greece, have listened to and officially identified 1,000 stations in 75 countries (and gave it up from then on) and covered distances of up to approx. 10,000 km at night with the help of a Sony AN1 active aerial. Amazing radio, excellent sound, but after some 20 yrs problems started with both band selector knobs (which came off!) and poor switch contacts. A must have if keen on those radio sets, bought it for approx. 1,160 euros in the mid-80s. Brand label reads Marc Double Converter, not Pan Crusader X or any other brand. Radio believed to be produced by a Sony-related company in Japan in the early 80s but not sure.

That radios a gem, mine was beat up bad but got it for a song n dance...not the hardest radio to find I had one in early 2000s but sold it later that century....

I have mine under name Artec and I purchased it as offer with poor, frankly no reception for 160 USD - a bit high price . After cleaning and alignment of tuning , the reception is so good that I have doubts if I can get any better multiband receiver. On VHF broadcast I can catch as distant as 170 km stations. In short waves I found that at evening I have broadcasters in at 49 and 41 m from around 7000 km and SSB HAM even more. Using only telescopic antenna and earthing. And the sound suits me too - I tried to use high class audio headphones for HAM buit it was not as clear as with internal speaker.

Nice review, thanks! Are you sure it was banned in East Germany? I googled and found just two links that had this information. One link stated "Germany", another "East Germany". Check cutrent laws. It's still forbidden to do it in an United Germany.

Does it have problems with drifting off frequency since the analogue dial?

thanks for the thorough review. i'm about to get my hands on a globephone gs 8008 dx, which is the same japanese built radio, but from a swiss company enhanced ( knobs and potis are all silvery metal). Name of the company is Globephone, in Lugano. one question i still have..all the interior will be 40plus yrs old..whats a good way to clean + de-crackle the potis and switches. ? does wd40 enough..? thanks in advance, an sw enthusiast newbie

I recommend using contact cleaner. WD40 would cause damage and may be electrically conductive plus chemically reactive to various materials.
