I used to see several Munch Mamut,s at TT in the late 70,s. If a bike existed you'd probably see it on the Island. A great period for motorcycling.

What a wonderful video. I'd never seen a Munch running till now. When I was a teenager I bought a book on motorbikes just because it had a Munch on the sleeve. I still have it. The Guzzi sounded gorgeous. My first two bikes were Guzzis. First was the Ziggolo 98cc and it really was gutless. But it enabled me to meet the legendary Stanley Woods who lived nearby and serviced it for me. He also serviced my second Guzzi, a Lodola 235cc four stroke single which was a much nicer bike. Stanley Woods showed me his trophy room with all his TT trophies. You can imagine what an experience that was for a teenage boy.

MUNCH! I believe that bike went to the Slimy Crud Motorcycle Gang run in Wisconsin, USA. My friend Dave passed away in 2008 and the collection was sold off. I didnt think I would ever see any of his bikes again.

I got to sit on a Munch many years ago and tipping it slightly from side to side it didn't feel much heavier than a cb750. They have been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember, so getting to throw a leg over one was quite a treat. This one was at a Viking Chapter of the Antique Motorcycle Club in Minnesota, USA back in the 1990s.

Too bad about the Clymer business association, he screwed Freidl Munch over badly in a weird Munch/Indian revival project.

Was the Munch acquired from Bonhams when the collection of Miklos Salamon bikes was auctioned off? Thank you for sharing with us. A wonderful slice of history, coupled with the outstanding restorations.

I thought the Ducati was a 90 degree V twin, not 120 degree as Sammy says.
@henrydegan62042 жыл бұрын
It can be seen clearly in the video that this is more than 90 degree so 120 may be correct

The Guzzi in the video has a 120• cylinder angle. The Ducati twins have a 90• cylinder angle.

That NSU car engine was developed from the NSU motorcycle engine, from the NSU Max, so it is full circle. The NSU Prince 3 wheeler got a NSU Max single cylinder engine and the later 4 wheeler got a double NSU Max two cylinder engine. That engine was further developed into the four cylinder 1000 debuting in the Prince 1000 and later came the 1000 TT. and TTS, the 1200 TT and 1200 TT-e with fuel injection. The Münch used the 1000 TT, TTS, !200 TT and 1200 TT-e in different models. The two cylinder 500 cc engine had been used very successfully by NSU in motorcycle racing. As the four cylinder 1000 cc was never sold by NSU in a motorcycle, like the 1 and 2 cylinder versions, one can call it a car engine.

Monster Munch? I think I first saw a picture of one of those in a pack of TopTrumps motorcycle cards someone at school had. And I never heard of one again until today 45 years later!

The munch has a very "long" first gear and will go close to 200 kmh. Had the luck that german museum owner wilhelm groh was fond of my kawasaki z 1300. So I rode a munch 1200 tts e whole afternoon while he enjoyed the 6 cilinder... munch "barket" like an mv agusta 750 amerika with open pipes... 😊
