The Rarest Items in Every Mario Game

Hey guys welcome to a great video where today Im going to go over what are the absolute rarest items in each and every Mario game. I actually learnt of some features I had never know about in researching this game, and Im sure a few of you will never have seen these as well. Please like, comment, subscribe and enjoy!

One item from Mario Galaxy 1 that I really liked that was really rare was the red star power up it only made one appearance in a stage. It's a shame it wasn't used more often in the game.

I'd have to agree. Both the boot and the hammer bros suit. I think, to my recollection, both only appear once. One in a level (Boot) and the other in a mushroom house (Hammer Bro Suit)

I think the Anchor is the most rare. It's so rare, that many people aren't even aware it exists. It's only function is to stop airships from moving if you fail.

I think people have said by now, but the water bottles in Mario Sunshine spawn when defeating enemies by jumping on them when Fludd is nearly empty. These including the respawning mini-goop enemies.

The blue coins of Mario 64 are always deterministic, you get them from big goombas by ground-pounding rather than just jumping. You can also get them from Boos & Koopas

I wouldn't call them rare either. In Big Boo's Mansion, most of the 100 coins needed come from blue coins obtained by defeating enemies.

They also are incredibly common, with blue coin switches being found in literally every main level in the game.

In Super Mario Land 2 there's another rare item: a bag of money with an M logo. It gives you 15 coins or whatever, I don't remember exactly how much. But there are not many of those during the game.

For Galaxy 2, you should have mentioned the Spring Mushroom. It shows up in only one level in the entire game, and even then you can relatively easily do the level without it.

If you're wondering about the green magic ball in Mario World, that's a reference to Mario 3. That level it appears in is the sunken airship, which is a reference to the airship stages from 3. You didn't actually get magic balls in them, but you did get them from beating Boom Boom in the fortresses.

I think the Buzzy Beetles are more common than even the Goombas just due to the existence of the New Quest.

If you consider enemies to be items in SMB 2 (which you can to a higher degree than you do SMB 1), then that honor goes to the Red Snifit; only one appears in the game, in a random spot in World 3-3.

It might be a bit of a stretch to count this as an item, but maybe the 8-bit rosalina would be the rarest "item" in mario odyssey because it only appears on the Dark Side and Darker Side, and is hidden in both of those.

Apparently green berries are so rare they're not mentioned in the video or the comments. Only in Funky, the final stage of the SPECIAL levels of Super Mario World, themselves hidden behind the hidden exits of the hidden star levels, can you find the green berries that add 30 units to the timer when Yoshi eats them. The level is the longest in the game and only has a timer of 200 units, which are shorter than seconds. You cannot beat the level without eating the berries to prolong the timer. Green berries also appear on the intro screen when you start a new game, but that's not a level and you can't get those berries.

For SMO, if you want to count captures as items then the rarest is definitely the piece of meat in Luncheon Kingdom. You can only capture it once per playthrough.

Kuribo's Shoe appears in 5-3 in Super Mario Bros. 3, and that's it. It didn't appear in a Mario game again until Super Mario Maker (2015). Surprised that wasn't mentioned. I f'n loved using that boot to stomp the un-stompable.

For New super Mario bros on the DS: the blue shell! You can’t find it in any normal blocks but can in the flying ones you mentioned as well as toad houses. Turns Mario into a shell which I think is awesome!!

I honestly miss the mini mushroom from new super Mario Bros, they need to bring that back it was so fun playing as a tiny pixel that jumps high and drops back down slowly

The bottle item appeared very common in my multiple playthroughs of Sunshine. You almost always get them when you jump kill the ink bubble slimes.

Also truly one of the most rare things if not the most rare is the Red Snifit, it only appears in ONE FRICKING LEVEL, it acts different to the other pink Snifits since it ignores edges

Although it doesn't count as an item which assists you like power-ups, you also could've included the Red Power Star you get in Super Mario Galaxy after collecting Purple Coins in Gateway Galaxy using the Red Star, which lets us fly around the Comet Observatory.

The invisible cap in Mario odyssey is the rarest in my opinion, I guess we can include all outfits you get after beating bowser but the invisible cap just feels a bit more rare as not a lot of people get far enough to get it

I agree because you need 500 moons to unlock darker side, which is very long and hard to beat, since you have one life per try, and then once you beat darker side you get the invisible suit

I think in mario odyssey its that dog thing that you pull out of the poison when fishing in bowsers land. It only happens once and you can never see it again after

You might technically be able to count the rocket ship in SMB2 as an item, and there are only three of them in the game

Wasn't there an anchor in Super Mario Bros 3? I think there might have been one in each world, or even fewer, and all they did was preventing the flying ship to move if you died when playing it.

In Super Mario 3D Land, in the purple boxes in World 1 and Special World 7, rarely you can get a gold box that has 15 tanooki leaves, 2 Star Medals, and 1 P-Wing, which is the only way to obtain it without triggering the assist block and getting rid of the sparkles from your file stars.

Nintendo clearly realized how useless the Goomba Mask was, as when it was added to Mario Maker 2, they made it so while worn, EVERY enemy will not try to attack you, not only Goombas

The weirdest way you can get blue coins in SM64 is by ground-pounding giant Goombas in Tiny-Huge Island. What's odd is that if you just jump on them normally, they yield a yellow coin. To get a blue coin, you have to defeat them with a ground pound.

For Galaxy, I would have mentioned the Boo Mushroom. It's only used in a grand total of three levels, one of which is for a whole 20 seconds at the end of a mission, and another isn't even required to use since the Bee Suit is available in the same level. It's even more egregious in Galaxy 2 since it's only used in a single mission, so that begs the question of why they even bothered bringing it back in the first place. Same applies to the spring mushroom, but that powerup sucks anyway so it's no big loss.

The sunken ship in super Mario world is actually a ship from Mario Bros 3. Look at the level design then look at a Mario Bros 3 ship design. Now look at how at the end of the ship in Mario Bros 3, you get an orb that ends the level ;) it's a pretty cool throwback

5:15 I believe Mr.I, Pokey, Piranha Plant (non-fire-emitting), and Boo (in Big Boo's Haunt) all have blue coins Some of the rarer items in Mario 64 are flying carpets and the invisible warp points (which are technically in every level but difficult to find because Mario has to stand in place at an arbitrary point to find them)

Fun fact about the Super Mario 3D Land P Wing item: It's not exclusive to spawning by losing 10 lives, but it's the easier way to get it. The other way it's by entering the mystery box levels, at random, one of the layouts contains a P Wing that you can store for later.

I think what's in the flying ?-Block is predetermined for every level. If I'm correct there are two power ups per level, so getting a mega mushroom impossible for many levels, which might be the reason you never encountered one before.

In Mario Galaxy, the rarest thing is actually an eneny. This is a giant goomba and there's only one in the game, in the tutorial level. Upon death, it give you the key that lead to the first grand star room

Regarding the water bottles in Sunshine- I have found they consistently spawn from enemies on the King Boo-lette fight in the hotel, but only when you are low on water. I believe this was due to there being no natural sources of water on the roulette wheel and it was a safeguard to prevent having to commit self die to restart the fight if you run out of water. I got stuck on that level a lot as a kid so needless to say, I saw those bottles a lot

Wow never knew about the "Yoshi Cloud" item, that "Cloud Block" was very similar to it. Also sometime you could want to do "Most Useful Items in Every Mario Game" and about those Waterbottles in Super Mario Sunshine couldn't find their original purpose but maybe in theory they were going to recover Mario's Health but that's just a theory Awesome Video by the Way!

I would say the rarest 'item' in new super mario Bros is the cloud that you can steal from lakitu and fly around the map with. The flying red blocks are actually pretty common.

Ik in galaxy 2 if you die a bunch in a lvl there a cosmic Rosalina will appear and if you choose to have her guide mario through the stage to see how you beat it. Though doing so makes the power star turn into a bronze star and if you want a real power star you have to beat the lvl on your own

In Super Mario Bros 3, the Goomba's shoe (Kuribo's Shoe) is only found in 5-3. There's only one in the game.

In sm64 normal enemies don't have a chance of dropping different coins, what type of coin they drop is set, so if they drop a blue coin(like the piranha plant) it will always drop one, while a goomba will always drop a normal coin.

A reliable way to spawn water bottles in mario sunshine is to jump on the swoopin stus (the blob things that come out of goop) when you are low on water. They usually drop a 1/2 bottle and full ones if you're almost out

Galaxy 2’s Bronze Star. If you lose enough lives (on certain quests) and the Cosmic Spirit appears, accepting her offer to help will turn the Power Star into a Bronze Star until you replay and complete the mission yourself.

If a power up is something that changes gameplay in some ways I feel captures should be included in which case I would say the puzzle blocks are probably the rarest in MARIO odyssey

I think Galaxy 1 should be the Red Star, and Galaxy 2 should be the Spring Mushroom. In each case, the powerup only shows up in a single stage, making them rarer than the mentioned items. Yes, the watermelons are harder to get to appear, but if you meet the requirement, they show up in every stage that has coconuts.
