I didn't hear the cat meow the first time so it just seemed like Johnny laughed maniacally. It fits the theme though.

Honestly one of the most approachable and therefore compelling readings of this piece I've heard. Now do the cover version that's about Watson grunting and farting on her bed while the protagonist tries to stream or edit videos or something ;)

Definitely not the usual reading speed for this poem but that’s what makes it great. Just shows that it can be performed in so many ways. Also just makes this yet another reading of The Raven that I have enjoyed. I guess this is one of those poems that people know how to read well.

It's really on theme that this came out for non patreon members on Halloween. Also, you are so good at stuff like dramatic readings. Just like how part of why you're so entertaining with roleplays, you just put so much emotion into the stuff you read.

The perfect response The End Of The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe's cat ( from Henry Beard's 'Poetry For Cats') On a night quite unenchanting, when the rain was downward slanting, I awakened to the ranting of the man I catch mice for. Tipsy and a bit unshaven, in a tone I found quite craven, Poe was talking to a Raven perched above the chamber door. "Raven's very tasty," thought I, as I tiptoed o'er the floor, "There is nothing I like more" Soft upon the rug I treaded, calm and careful as I headed Towards his roost atop that dreaded bust of Pallas I deplore. While the bard and birdie chattered, I made sure that nothing clattered, Creaked, or snapped, or fell, or shattered, as I crossed the corridor; For his house is crammed with trinkets, curios and wierd decor Bric-a-brac and junk galore. Still the Raven never fluttered, standing stock-still as he uttered, In a voice that shrieked and sputtered, his two cents' worth - "Nevermore." While this dirge the birdbrain kept up, oh, so silently I crept up, Then I crouched and quickly lept up, pouncing on the feathered bore. Soon he was a heap of plumage, and a little blood and gore - Only this and not much more. "Oooo!" my pickled poet cried out, "Pussycat, it's time I dried out! Never sat I in my hideout talking to a bird before; How I've wallowed in self-pity, while my gallant, valiant kitty Put an end to that damned ditty" - then I heard him start to snore. Back atop the door I clambered, eyed that statue I abhor, Jumped - and smashed it on the floor.

Thank you for this, Johnny. You did an amazing job. I can't even imagine doing it in front of a camera. I've recorded "The Raven" a number of times over the years. It's my favorite from all of Poe's works! My biggest hurdle was trying to overcome the James Earl Jones one from The Simpsons episode. Some of my recordings were very much in his style. I have them on SoundCloud if anybody's interested.

This is basically how I read this poem in my mind, actually hearing "Leonore?" being in an inquisitive tone as the door is opened is something I found myself wishing for in other readings, and it was immensely satisfying to hear you say it that way. You should really think about adding some music and video backdrop and publishing this as a serious read of the poem (thiugh that would have to be done without Watson and the cat, sadly). Just one question, and it'sa genuine question: isn't "nepenthe" supposed to end with a "thee" sound?

I really do love you Johnny, you hooked me on EG, I loved how you had the balls to say, I'm moving on. Wish you never. You are a great dungeon master, but, yeah, I know. You read it so bloody well, but too fast Johnny. You must have read his works, he never rushed it, and according to people, he was very long and almost boring. Not like you. I'd love to hear you do this again, with pause and thought to the words.

Edgar Allan Poe never wrote "The Raven," he merely claimed its authorship using a kind of 19th-century "identity theft." The poem was submitted anonymously to "American Review" under the pseudonym "---- Quarles" by the true author, Mathew Franklin Whittier, younger brother of poet John Greenleaf Whittier. Poe, a reviewer for the New York "Evening Mirror," finding the poem in an advance copy of "American Review," scooped Mathew in his own paper by two days. Mathew had shared a copy of "The Raven" with Poe in early 1842, so Poe had a handwritten copy in his possession. This enabled him to convince his editor he had permission to scoop "American Review"--but he mysteriously left the "Mirror" shortly afterwards (suggesting that he may have been fired for lying about it). It is the height of absurdity that the editor of a newly-launched monthly literary magazine like the "Review," would have given a daily newspaper this permission. The real author was not in a position to reveal his identity because of his anti-slavery work and connection with the Underground Railroad, and hence could not publicly defend himself. See my paper, "Evidence that Edgar Allan Poe Stole 'The Raven' from Mathew Franklin Whittier," or a more condensed version intended for scholarly journals, entitled "Edgar Allan Poe’s Plagiarism of Mathew Franklin Whittier’s Poem, “The Raven," each of which can be downloaded from the following links. They can also be found by searching for each paper's' title on Academia.edu. www.ial.goldthread.com/MFW_The_Raven.pdf www.ial.goldthread.com/MFW_The_Raven_condensed.pdf
