I live in PC, I was at my grandparents as the house was ripped apart around us, there was only a closet left standing. Our town is still in horrible condition. The insurance companies screwed everyone over. Most people didn't get a single penny. This video does it no justice, i was standing in the living room when the roof flew away, i was just looking up at this wall of pure Hatred. 2 years later and we're still recovering. Its kinda weird seeing these videos and going "Holy shit, i was there, i survived this"

i live in panama city and this was one of the worst days of my life. i just remember that feeling of being useless while my city around me literally crumbled. everyone was hungry, the water wasn’t working, everyone was dirty, the sun literally beaming, stores looted, houses (including mine) was torn apart, schools, couldn’t get in touch with anybody to make sure they was okay. it was horrible. like i wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy

Yes until you are there a nd every way you look is being torn apart by 175 mile per hour winds ,your house cars kids stuff animals gonethen come the aftermath clean up no electricity for 27 days no water no clean clothes or gasoline to run your generator if you are lucky enough to have one no way to feed your family except mre's not as fun as you might think total devistation every where you look and to think you are lucky because you or no loved ones died.

​@@xr6ladjust so you know, hurricanes like this one are incredibly rare. Only 4 category 5 hurricanes are known to have hit the US mainland since record keeping began in the mid 1800s. The previous hurricane of this caliber was Andrew in 1992. Additionally, the area where this one hit had never seen anything stronger than a category 3, and building codes in the area only called for structures to survive a category 4. Most people do have hurricane kits, but a pantry full of supplies doesn't go very far when the destruction is so bad that the pantry itself is destroyed (along with the rest of the house). Unfortunately, and for reasons I still don't understand, the scale of the destruction left behind by this storm was dramatically under reported. Reporters usually tend to blow things out of proportion, but I think in this case many of them were shell shocked and just wanted to get out of the area as fast as possible. Long story short, it is very difficult to be prepared for a storm of this magnitude

StylistecS I am both fascinated by them and afraid of them. I read a lot about them. I was intrigued by tiny Beryl this year, windfield was smaller than the size of Manhattan. Smaller than Beryl was Marco. Pretty sure that is the correct name, 2005? I think Marco, although small, was a strong storm. I'll read up on that one again. I'm definitely afraid of the major ones esp. the very major ones like Michael.

You can actually pretty accurately estimate the total energy expended by a hurricane based on the amount of water vapor that is rising off the ocean to condense into clouds. The change of state of water from a gas to a liquid releases a considerate amount of latent heat energy, even in small quantities. But when considering the total amount of water condensing in a hurricane, the average energy release is accepted at between 5.0x10^14 joules/sec and 6.0x10^14 joules/sec. At that rate, a hurricane will release more energy than is contained in our entire nuclear arsenal in a single day. As incredible as the wind energy of a hurricane is, it makes up less than 1% of the total energy released by a hurricane. The vast majority is actually heat.

My grandmother lived in Valparaiso until she passed, and we spent a great deal of time in Panama City when we visited. I couldn't believe the destruction Michael visited on the area... such a tragedy. Panama City and Destin are some of the most beautiful beaches in western FL if you ask me. NO camera or microphone can possibly reproduce the raw power of winds like this. I experienced winds like for 4 (four) days on ocean station Charlie in Dec 1973. I was on CGC Morganthau which was a 378 foot ship. The winds were straight line for the entire time and to say the seas were mountainous is an understatement. Once in a while I'd go to the engine room down low to reduce the amount of being tossed around. We were running our 2- 3500HP diesels at 2/3 ahead to give us steerage just to keep pointed into the wind and the wind noise outside drowned out the diesels!

This was one of the worst storms I've been through and NEVER want to face again. So many people has lost and had to start over from "Hurricane Michael". We're all still rebuilding and regaining something of a normal life. However, I have found out that hardly anyone outside of this storm knew absolutely nothing about this devastation we faced here. I am a survivor of Hurricane Michael in Panama City. I rode through the eye along with 12 other people in a church that was nearly destroyed. It was a terrifying and unforgettable experience. It was like being caught in a giant tornado for 3 hours, I thought it was going to be my end. The aftermath felt like the apocalypse, power lines and trees covered the roads and highways. We didn't have water or power for over a month. The entire community mourned, but everyone came together and I was amazed of all the outside help we got. Tears still fill my eyes when I think about this. I pray for the Bahama survivors of Hurricane Dorian, their situation is much worse.

I was on the second story in an apartment when it hit, in Panama City. It persisted for 4 hours, and tore the roof off another apartment building. Iirc, a lady's house had thia massive tree fall on it. The flea market right down the road reduced to rubble like buildings near Mexico Beach. Floodwater rose up like 3 feet. It was catastrophic. I commend you for being out there in the eyewall recording this, stay safe man.

Having watched several of the videos documenting the force of this hurricane, it amazes me that there is anything left standing. Anyone building in hurricane prone or tornado prone areas should be required to watch the footage of what 100 plus mph winds look like, so they don't complain about building codes, and also go and extra step in adding additional structural supports where possible. The power is absolutely incredible. I am not far east of there, only 5 miles inland, and did not evacuate, but thanks to these videos shared I certainly will in the future.

Having lived in parts of the country that have hurricanes and tornadoes, I got to see both up close and personal. The differences between a tornado and a hurricane are... With a hurricane, you have days of advance warning and they can track it for hours before it hits. With tornadoes, you're lucky if you have 2 hours notice. Tornadoes will slam you down harder than a hurricane and then be on their way. Hurricanes will keep knocking you down every time you get up for hours. Rain often precedes a tornado but typically ebbs about the time the funnel is in your close vicinity. Hurricanes bring the water non-stop and from all directions. Tornadoes don't always collapse buildings from a distance away. Hurricanes will keep hammering until they topple the building. Bottom line, both bring their own destructive dynamic and should never be underestimated for their potential to ruin the lives of people and destruction of property.

This is what those of us that "rode it out" for various reasons sat through while Michael ripped our world apart. What this video can't show is the moment the eye comes across and everything gets deathly quiet. Then, just moments later, it all starts up again but from the opposite direction. Going through hurricane Michael, it's hard to believe that nature can create something so devastating.. Only time in my life I was scared... Two hours of winds of 140 to 170 mph.... In the wall of the eye it was hell on earth... People talk about the homes and buildings destroyed, but the heartbreaking thing to see was no tree over 10ft. Tall remained... Not a leaf on a tree, nothing but bare wasteland.. As if a bomb went off for 75 miles inland. The countryside will take decades to recover.

I live in Dothan, Alabama 85 miles from this. I live 1/2 mile from 231 south that dead ends in Panama City. We had at least a cat.4 when it hit here, this is a huge town of 68,000 people and the damage was catastrophic. I didn't have any damage, THANK GOD but the house across the street was crushed by a 47 year old oak tree, the old couple inside barely got to a spot in the house where the tree wasn't leaning. I watched out all windows circling the house to watch for falling trees. I saw 6 trees fall on houses and 3 were about 10 ft. from my bedroom. It was horrible, I never would have thought it would have reached this far and still be that strong. It wiped out towns in Georgia, Florida and Alabama within a 100 mile radius. Just like Katrina, we now how a higher population!

I live in cottonwood, Alabama which is about an hour and a half from where he's standing in that garage and our town got torn apart. Michael was a crazy storm and the worst one I've ever endured. Still remember it like it was yesterday.

The eyewall was like a high level F2 (F3 in gusts)tornado that lasted almost 2 hours. Wow.

I think some of the gusts were probably in the F4 wind range. Sustained winds were already solid F3 range!!!

The thing is, is that we don't actually know the difference between 200mph winds in a tornado and 200MPH winds in a hurricane. In a tornado it's much more complex, moving directions, incredible updraft lower pressure etc. So comparing them is really comparing apples to oranges. We don't know if the windspeed estimates on the EF scale are accurate either. It's just an estimation.

There are still people trying to rebuild from Michael nearly 4 long years ago. Until you experience 160mph wind you will never experience how close you come to the wrath of God. For those who live in Mexico Beach and the Eastside of Bay county, Florida, we have learn that we must rely on each other to survive not the government. Appreciate the national guard coming thru when they did. Praying we never have another one, Camille of 69 Michael of 2018 was enough for a lifetime. With few typhoons an earthquakes in Philippines you realize how here in America we have neighbors n family to rely on. Praying for quiet 2022.

I drove down I-10, a couple months ago, on my way to Tampa, from Mobile. I went thru Ivan and Katrina. The coastal damage was incredible! But when I went thru that area, 30 or 40 miles off the coast, and saw the damage, I was shocked! It makes me wonder what I didn't see, because I am sure the cleanup of destroyed homes had already taken place.

This man is. Legend. My uncle rode out hurricane Andrew . Boarded himself in his multimillion$ mansion and said I’m going down with the ship just me and a bottle of whiskey…. He said the noises were the creepiest thing about it. Hearing everything bending and screeching . Wild!

What so many people do not understand are how many of those incredibly violent spouts of wind are actually tornadoes touching down. We are heading to Mexico Beach this weekend to help there. Our group had been at Panama Beach for the past few weeks helping to remove trees off of homes. So much devastation and so much to do for a long time to come. Thanks for posting this video. Here in Florida, it’s all too common.

After surviving the April 27th, 2011 F4 Tornado in Pleasant Grove, Alabama I can tell you that the sound is similar but does not sound as violent. An F4 has wind speeds from 207 mph to 260 mph but aren't sustained as long as a hurricane. Thanks for providing the video. Maybe some people will heed the warnings next time.
