From what you are telling me, I have no idea how much I would enjoy The Raw Shark Texts. What I do know is that it will require a great deal of dedication and perseverance in order to get a great understanding and thorough enjoyment. The concept seems intriguing enough and I like the idea of books about books about experimentation in books. I did not read The House of Leaves, but may consider looking into it when I get the opportunity. To me, it sounds like MacArthur's Park by Richard Harris and Southbound Jericho Parkway by Roy Orbison in how they go against the traditions of lyrical structure and that I have to commend. Thank you for sharing! :) -Josh

I think you keyed into my ambivalence about this book. I'm not sure if you would like it either, but it's an interesting (and short) read. I would seriously suggest House of Leaves, though. And I like being pointed to music that goes against convention as well!

The fact that it is short makes it less of a gamble if for some reason it is not interesting. I will be sure to check out House of Leaves when I get the opportunity and will pick it up if I come across it at a bookstore. It is definitely interesting when music goes against convention, especially since the structure of so many songs we hear on the radio is the same. Either that or it is filled with clichés.

I am thinking of reading postmodernist writers and I think this book will be perfect as an excersice to get used to read more experimental narratives :)

Even with its faults it does sound like an interesting read. Lovely review and will also check out House of Leaves.

Crap. It looks like this might be a dead channel, but could anyone tell me the second book she listed after house of leaves? HOL is my favorite book and the reason I bought this book, so I read anything that's compared to it, but I legit can't make out what she said.

I believe shes talking about "if on a winter's night a traveler" by Italo Calvino, the shoe would fit with what Wikipedia has to say about that book.

this is totally not what the book is about. you left out the most important things. it is not at all about a love story.
