I personally think that if a man was to marry a second wife to help her be able to live and eat and basically not be broke especially if she has kids then it’s ok in that sense however nowadays women in the west are able to get on their feet without a need of a husband and my mom is living proof. She has three daughters and when she first got divorced from my dad she was struggling a lot but I remember having a conversation with her about being a second wife and she said she’d never agree to it because the men that Ali described don’t exist anymore or are extremely rare and it will get to a point where one of the wives is jealous of the other allahuallam

first of all provide evidence that this ayah was revealed at the battle of uhud because of the widows and the orphans. this is not true. ibn katheer, tabari and other mufassireen don't mention this. second of all, why did then the sahaba marry 2,3 or 4 wives even after the battle of uhud? Like when islam spread to other countries etc. Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Ghaylān ibn Salamah Ath-Thaqafi embraced Islam and he had ten wives from the pre-Islamic period of ignorance, and they all embraced Islam with him. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) commanded him to choose four of them. Sahih/Authentic. - [Ibn Maajah] were those 10 women widows of the battle of uhud? no it says jahiliyyah, pre islamic period. if keeping one wife was the best, the prophet would have ordered him to divorce 9 and keep 1, but he didn't. Narrated Sa`id bin Jubair: Ibn `Abbas asked me, "Are you married?" I replied, "No." He said, "Marry, for the best person of this (Muslim) nation (i.e., Muhammad) of all other Muslims, had the largest number of wives."
