The cost of living in most ways is around half the cost in the US. Taxi and Uber rides that in the US cost between $10-40, are $2 to $8 here.

We live in Morelia, and take UBER once a week to go to eat. We're within walking distance of all our shopping, pharmacies, etc. We're in a 4000 sq ft, 3 brm, 3 ba home at $400. We're living the good life, among family and friends! VIVA MEXICO!! Our monthly cost is around $800.00 USD.
@TheYarbros2 жыл бұрын
Yes, we did quite a few videos on Morelia. It is one of our favorite cities in Mexico for quality of life, cost of living, ice cream, gaspachos! The only problem is all the violence happening in the state of Michoacan....ik it is far away from Morelia but those cartels are wilding out over there.
@russbarnes26312 жыл бұрын
@@TheYarbros I've not even heard of violent activities. We walk around El Centro often. I think the US is more dangerous any more. I have little experience in Mexico City, except for staying there for a month when first arriving. My wife is a Mexican native, maybe that helps!
@TheYarbros2 жыл бұрын
@@russbarnes2631 We stayed in Morelia a little over a month and I can testify that the city is family friendly and safe. The violence I speak of is in a city called Zamora, Michoacan. Yes, the US is dangerous but there are pockets in MX to watchout for and one of those pockets is in Michoacan. That's all I was saying. We definitely recommend the city of Morelia but I also want my subscribers to know that Zamora is a city not to get any busses through. That's all. Blessings and enjoy the good life!

I haven't watched the entire video yet. I just got to the part where y'all talk about transportation costs. Y'all may wanna invest in some electric bikes. They start around $300. I worked and saved over the years to build a house in Jalisco Mexico. We live in small town outside of Guadalajara so expenses and cost of living is lower then the big city. Im rent free my monthy expenses ultilites, food & entertanment round up to $500 to $700 USD a month for my family of 4. The house is ran on solar powered panels so the light bill is really cheap $5 to $10 usd monthy. I only have to worry for gas on transportation $50 a week, groceries/eating out $100 a week which we usually cook on weekdays and eat out on weekends. The water bill is paid once a year comes out to $70 usd. Home Internet $10 usd month and cell phone bills round out to $15 usd a moth for both my wife and I. Entertainment depends where we want to go but yes Mexico is a great place to live at if you are making USD and spending in pesos of course. 👍🏻

Don't take this as a criticism but just as a comment please. This is a good video for ex-pats but in many ways (if a person lives long term and wants to make an effort to learn a little bit of the language) , if one lives like a local one can even cut costs even lower, you stress transportation costs, if you get a bicycle (not even an Ebike LOL) for short trips other than the cost of the bicycle that costs nothing and if you familiarize yourself with the bus routes for places that you go to often and know the stop you can take the bus for much less. This can be done in other countries which unlike the U.S. depends on mass transit more than we do. Mexican grocery stores cost less than the US chains (here in L.A., Kroger owns a grocery chain for Hispanics that cost less than even their 4 for Less chain), get produce from vendors but can understand you wanting to buy your meat from the Costco.

We don't mind your input at all, thanks. There are a lot of things for us to respond to and possibly defend ourselves but we don't feel attacked at all. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for this very thorough breakdown of the cost of living in Merida. I'm planning a trip to visit it and check it out next month and hopefully move there in the next 6 months. Two questions I have are I'm trying to decide between a hotel or air b-n-b /vrbo option while checking out what neiighbourhood suits me. I lean toward the more quaint colonial homes rather than super modern. And also when it comes to the actual move, use a realtor or go it on my own to find an affordable place to rent? I've definitely heard rent an air bnb for a month or two while apartment/home hunting. Thanks for any tips on this.

If you factor how much a car payment or a cash out purchase of a car would be plus registration, gas, maintenance, parking, etc would cost you...what you’re paying is really excellent.

Can I ask what area of Merida you have a home in? I really enjoyed your video. I will be spending an extended period of time in Mexico starting next year. Thank you very much.

Great video! I've been to Merida and love it. Question? What do you do for health insurance? I know that medical & dental is reasonable in Mexico, but I do have a concern if we were to get really sick, what then? Also, are you planning to stay there in Merida or have you moved on since January and this awful situation the worrld is in right now.

Hey!!! Glad you liked the video. We are still in Merida. We did an interview with MID City Beat last week where we talked about insurance and gave a list of resources. You can check it out at: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHTdqHiljr5rn8U . Some hospitals here take Ins from abroad and you can get Medical Ins here as a traveler. Thanks for checking us out!
