Can you do one for single ppl too? Best areas to live vs what income would be needed for different rental/ownership costs?

Here are some personal real estate tidbits you might find interesting: my parents bought a modest three bedroom, one bathroom Eichler home in the Midtown section of Palo Alto, about a half mile from Bayshore highway (101 today) for around $10,000 in 1951. In 1960, we moved to the Burlingame hills, a split level house with a big backyard, even a creek, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and central heat, for $35,000. After my parents passed away, the Burlingame house was sold by my parents' trust for $1.1 million in 2007. Recently, the Burlingame house was sold again, this time for $2.6 million. Meanwhile, I checked the Palo Alto house today, and its estimated value is $2.4 million. It was last sold for $285,000 in Dec. 1994. As for me, because my partner grew up in the Texas panhandle, and wanting to buy a house we could own, in our retirement I bought a nice three bedroom two bathroom house here in Plainview TX for $150,000 in 2019. I will pay off the mortgage this year. Of course, the weather and culture are nicer in the SF Bay Area, but the quality of K-12 education is probably on par here with the Bay Area. Also, as for the Bay Area, a three bedroom house in El Cerrito where I used to live, in the flatlands, cost around $1 million. The weather is better there than Palo Alto, it is close to Bart and UC Berkeley. So that seems economically wiser than buying a house in Palo Alto, unless your job is there.
