Attacking Ottoman territory in February 1462, Vlad attacked Ottoman territory and massacred tens of thousands of Turks and Muslim Bulgarians. Using military tactics Vlad's military tactics included ambushing the Sultan's envoy, splitting his army, poisoning wells, and sending infected men into the Ottoman ranks. Displaying impaled bodies Vlad put about 20,000 impaled bodies on display outside the city of Targoviste. The sight was so repulsive that the Sultan retreated to Constantinople. Vlad's victories were celebrated throughout Europe, but he also earned a reputation for sadism. He earned his nickname by impaling his enemies on stakes.”

Vlad did what was necessary. God only knows what he endured as a child that we will never know about.
@turquoisemoon365427 күн бұрын
Personal theory: Vlad probably had been molested as a child in the Ottoman court (wonder why there was so much talk about the princes being treated as guests... probably because they were being used in "intimate" ways?) But rather than subject himself to the humiliation that led to his brother being treated as a possible male concubine of the sultan's own son, he used the disgust and humiliation to fuel his thirst for revenge. There were several opportunities for him to choose a safer route and be the sultan's dog, following the whims of the Ottoman rulers- but he refused and took the harder path. And since he had so much Ottoman education, he probably used that to fuel the "disinformation" campaign that led to his being defined as the personification of "evil," a diabolical menace so to speak. He probably knew back then that everyone feared "demons" and "devils" more than swords and military might. If he could get away with the intimidating tales of horror, the better. That would've made him a legend to be feared. And probably he wouldn't have survived longer if those horrific tales didn't do the job well.

While I get the region was ethnically and religiously diverse, no there wouldn't have been any Protestants as Martin Luther established his followers almost another century after Vlad was born.

It takes a good man to become a monster to defeat more monsters. May god have mercy on Vlad's soul.

factoid: Vlad’s mustache was so massive, it required the attention of two full time handlers. his father and grandfather both had practiced mustache intimidation, Vlad simply took it to another level, growing it to be the bigger than all of them. historians agree this extreme mustache was at least partly responsible for his unchecked aggression and thirst for blood

So impressive your pronunciation of Romanians Cities and names!

True, but still they use stupid English names for some of the historic figures. 11:41 I'm sure Hunyadi's first name was not 'John', and it has been used throughout the story. There was also a certain 'Steven' who he was talking about. I can't imagine a 'Steven' in this brutal environment.

Years ago at a church I used to attend, there were three sisters who immigrated to America escaping the communist regime and were from the very same area of Romania as was Vlad the Impaler centuries earlier.

as the european kings ( Henry 8/Tudor period, French and German Kings, pope's) were no less brutal to their enemies and subjects, I don't think Vlad was all that " extra evil'. torture and punishment were commonplace back then.
