I wish Brita hadn't been dumbed down to such a buffoon but I also get that in a sitcom it's easier to mine a caricature for humor. They all got a bit broader but Brita was the only one whose character was ruined by it... and Peirce but that was due to all the interpersonal friction between Chevy and Dan (and everyone else tbh).
@meredith32674 жыл бұрын
I think as the show progressed, Britta became more complex and more realistic compared to her 1st episode character which is like a trophy for Jeff to win over.

They all needed flaws to work on them and grow, this version of Britta didn't have any so she had 0 personality to develop, dumb Britta is far better than just a pretty blonde
@Logan_Baron4 жыл бұрын
They needed to change her character some, as her original purpose was to show Jeff's flaws, but it was clear he did that on his own. I didn't mind the dumbing down, as it worked well when her character was pretty much just posing as the original one we see. At times it got too much like in the episode when they showed her parents. I cringe at how bad she was in those scenes. Personally, I would have liked to have seen all the characters achieve some degree of what they aspired to, rather than remaining static for the most part. Shirley for example trying to find herself and be independent and ending up going back with her husband. The way they presented him made sense, but I still would have liked to have seen her grow as a single independent woman. Annie was the one that seemed to actually be going somewhere from where she started originally and I'd have liked to have seen some of that with all of them. But back to Britta. She was presented besides being smarter, as having made mistakes in life that left her behind. In the end she was still kind of stuck in that place of her mistakes leaving her stuck in life.
@wordyblerd77234 жыл бұрын
@@Logan_Baron All good points... I actually didn't mind Shirley getting back with Andre because they were cute together and she was building her business, so she needed help with the kids and all. I liked that she put her foot down with him about being the breadwinner too. It sucked that they broke up off-screen. Even though Malcolm Jamal Warner had another show, the characters could have stayed together. He didn't need to ever physically be seen again. Kinda dumped on that whole season-long storyline.

Hot Take: The Study Group was at its best as a platonic single unit (excluding all the Jeff/Britta/Annie love stuff) in this season, which is why it's my favorite. Yeah, they did have these kinds of moments/episodes in following seasons, but this was the season where it was at the forefront. It's why I enjoy Comparative Religion more than Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas. Aside from the fact that it was the first episode of Community I ever watched, it's an episode where Jeff, Britta, Shirley, Abed, Troy, Annie and Pierce come to realize that they have each other and they have to stick together. Including Pierce, which a lot of the later seasons don't do.
