He's a bum hiding behind the new fangled modern format with short time controls. Real chess masters play correspondence with 1 month per move time controls. I once played a single game by mail that took over 9 years. "Then a game by correspondence is the fairest test of skill? Yes; and a match game is fairer than a tournament. In a tournament 'draws' are allowed to count. That is wrong, for a good player is immediately handicapped if his opponent determines to play for a draw. Another objection to tournaments is that the time is too limited, necessarily; the series between any two players cannot be long enough to constitute a true test." - Wilhelm Steinitz

Just think of it: Bobby Fisher devised this chess variant way back in 1996, when engines were just beginning to have a tremendous impact on the game in terms of infinite preparation and memorization, thereby eroding the creativity, imagination, and spontaneity of the beloved game. Enter Fisher Random Chess, where extensive opening preparation goes out the window, and you're completely on your own from move one!

gj Magnus. Did remind of the historical fight between Achilles and Hector "Get up prince of Troy. Get up. I won't let a stone take my glory", as that early pawn move maybe took the wind out of Fabiano. Still he fought and if anything we, the snack munching crowd on the stalls might have left disappointed as we perhaps expected our heroes to master a 960 opening within 15 minutes and not have a game biased that early. We miss Magnus as perhaps the last time he did get challenged was 3 years ago. Why oh why did he let the crown go? Is it better or is it worse than losing it on the board? "-...would we have won? -I don't know. But I would have liked that campaign. If my friend Andy Shepherd had shown up, I would have liked that campaign very much." [The American President 1995]

Throughout the tournament I thought it was unfair that they are given a new starting position for every 2nd game. For the simple reason that not all starting positions in 960 are equal. Say in your 1st game you played white but the position was quite equal and black managed to hold a draw, but in the 2nd game the position is much better for white and now you have to either draw or win with black. It's fairer if they just play the same starting position with colours reversed.

Fischer random chess, also known as Chess960 ('chess nine-sixty') and freestyle chess,[1] is a variation of the game of chess invented by the former world chess champion Bobby Fischer.[2] Fischer announced this variation on June 19, 1996, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.[3][4][5] Fischer random chess employs the same board and pieces as classical chess, but the starting position of the pieces on the players' home ranks is randomized, following certain rules. The random setup makes gaining an advantage through the memorization of openings impracticable; players instead must rely more on their skill and creativity over the board.

What happens if the starting position has the K on g1 and the R on f1? You can only castle queenside? If you are in zug can you waste a move and castle kingside and not move the pieces anywhere?
@mithunkumaran6899
@mithunkumaran6899 3 ай бұрын
Then the another R will be on h1 so that you could castle both side cos one of the rule of freestyle chess is that the King should always be placed in between the Rooks, no matter the squares..

The disgusting lack of Respect shown to Bobby Fischer by the chess community in general is unbelievable. It isn't chess 960, it isn't freestyle chess, it's Fischer Random Chess, Fischer invented it because he was bored of opening theory deciding games.

Amazing, the more chess 1960 I watch, the more I think chess 1960 is the real chess, that is to say : how chess was meant to be played.
