omg, I have been playing with this on and off, for weeks. I was about to give up searching because no one mentioned "what if flash is not working" I bought the a6000 a couple months back (still has great reviews), but my flash would not work. Seven years later and your video is still helping people!!! 💯👋

I bought a Sony A7 in Oct 2019 and my nephew bought me a Neewer Speedlite 750II but for a NIKON. I used your suggestion and it works. I tried it in TTL on the flash and Auto with fill-flash and red eye reduction on the camera and it worked. Great now I don't need to exchange the flash or buy a flash mount adapter between Nikon and Sony MI hot shoe. I only started to trouble shoot this miss match and found your video in 15 minutes. A miracle. Thanks Lavikka.

Thank you!! I can confirm it works for me as well. yn560 IV with a6000. Also I didnt need to scratch off the hot shoe mount like what you did. I always wondered why it wasn't a problem with my a7 but never worked with my a6000. Anyway, I also tried the same technique to try and make the yn560 IV flash to work with the RX100 II.. still doesn't work though.. (I know the flash is bigger than the camera but I wanted to have fun)

Just wanted to add to this video that in addition to that pin falling in the correct spot you MUST use some thing sharp or sand paper to file the INSIDE OF THE MOUNT!!! I just got my YN560IV and it DID NOT WORK! even with the pin locked in. I scratched the inside of the shoe where the flash slides in to and it started working immediately. Thanks for not giving up on this issue and helping us all out Lavikka Photography! Keep up the good work. BTW I bought the Sigma 60mm because of you and it does not stop to impress me, I have compared it to a 135mm f2L canon on a 6D body and to other much much much more expansive lenses and the quality of that $200 lens... well it should be illegal for it to be so damn sharp for that price hahahha. Thanks again!!

Eagerly awaiting your review of the Nissin Di700A and Air 1 commander. I have mine and so far I'm delighted with it though I did find the quick start instructions anything but clear. However I got it in the end and it seems to work fine now including HSS mode. Setting the camera to wireless mode needs the commander to be installed on the camera but the camera will revert to the fill flash setting when it's not on the camera.

Thanks for this video! For a while my Godox TT350s, dedicated for Sony, was not firing consistently when I use an inverted lens for macro on the a6000. I ended up putting a masking tape at the tip of the flash's foot, but over time the masking tape gets damage. Because of this video, I'm now using the Canon-dedicated TT350c for my a6000, as long I'm just careful not to push it too much on the hotshoe. Now fires consistently.

I have the Yongnuo 568EX Flash (Nikon version) and the Yongnuo RF603N II Flash Triggers and they both worked great on the Sony A6000 hot shoe without any modifications to the hot shoe. The only thing I had to do was lower the lock a little on the flash and/or trigger before pushing them onto the hot shoe and to not push them in all the way onto the hot shoe--like you said. Worked great. Thanks !!

The strange thing is, that this applies at least to the Alpha 6000. On my Alpha 7 the problem does not occur. When just sliding any flash or remote controller fully into the multi interface shoe everthing works fine. One the Alpha 6000 I have to move it back a little bit.

Thank you for your humble statement.... The thing to remember is when we install a flash or a transmitter int the hot shoe we should hear the click of the pin going down into the hole, if we don't, contacts might be compromised.

Canon 320 EX seems to be a good choice if you want to get a compact and bounceable on camera flash for the a6000 that works for me every time with NO issues even with the hotshoe painted black as it is on mine. Only think I did was slightly sand the underside of the hotshoe rails previously based on your 1st two videos but never got around to sanding the hotshoe all the way.

Hopefully, you could do a video tutorial next on how to mount these these yn560s and 560-tx in a studio situation, then how they can best work whether manual or ttl modes. Have you tried using the Youngno YN-622 trigger for Canon on a Sony? I bought a couple Youngnuo speedlights that are made for canon as well as a Photttix Strato and they popped off every time. The reason I ask is I just bought a strobe that supports HSS and I can't find a trigger for it and I refuse to "go backward" like you said on the adapters and all when I'm already doing that with my Phottix Strato because it is the Minolta hotshoe and it's frustrating every time I'm doing a photo shot that I have this transformer of a set up.

Lavikka, It's be 3 and a half years since this review. Since that time, have you had any problem with the A 6000 hot shoe loosening or even worse, falling off all together? Mine just did yesterday and while Canon and other hot shoe allow you to remove a plate and tighten from the top, all I can find on line is that I need to take the camera entirely apart because the hot shoe tightens from the bottom. I now have a one year old camera with NO interface with outside lighting of any kind other than the useless pop up flash. Certainly I can't fire my studio lights. Do you know of a resource where I can learn to fix or replace my hot shoe? I'm at least 3000 miles from the nearest repair center in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

I am not blasting all you are doing, on the contrary great finding as solution. I am just confused as a newbie with the terms 1) standard, universal &multi-interface. 2) the number of pins on your flashes shoe are all different from the holes on the a6000 hot shoe (3), which seems they were never meant for each other. 3) wonder if the yn560-tx is same hot shoe design. 4) do you get any ttl effects in anyway or it's totally manual.
@LavikkaPhotography
@LavikkaPhotography 8 жыл бұрын
+Samme Samme-nlar All flashes come with a center firing pin which is universal. The pin allows the flash to be fired and the powered is controlled from the flash. The other small pins control info for TTL and HSS for each brand. The mulit interface hot shoe has the one firing pin then all of the little pins at the front for TTL, HSS and Audio control. Yonguo flashes are mostly brand specific but work fine manually on Sony in manual mode.

The YN622C-TX fits on the Sony MIS with no problem, I use that to trigger the other yongnuo flashes. As an added bonus, I mounted a cheap Vivitar FB-100 ($20 on sale) to extend 2 other cold shoes on the A7II, mounted a pocketwizard plusX on it, and ran the PC sync cable between the PlusX and the YN622C-TX. This basically lets my sekonic L-478DR talk to the PlusX, and the PlusX tells the Yongnuo to fire, and the yongnuo controls all the other Yongnuo receiver groups (in manual mode). It's pretty slick! Take it easy :)

Make sure you are below 200th of sec, camera is set to flash+fill with red eye off, and there should be a little wiggle room in the hotshoe with the transmitter in. twist the transmitter to right until it stops. that will help ground it a little.

If I put the transmitter on the cameras hotshoe and then put the flash on it, it does not work. the trigger will make the camera take a photo but will not trigger the flash so I have to put the flash directly on the camera and then plug in the transmitter with a cord to the camera so it has to dangle. Any idea why that is?

Hi Lavikka, Very quick question. KZbin is awash with the sony hot shoe problems.I want to buy these flashes, and i have a Neewer sony hot shoe to Nikon converter. would that be a quick and simple fix? or is there more to it? Thanks

+Nick Price yes it does help if the hot shoe is particularly troublesome.

You say it's not a paint issue, but your hotshoe plate is silver, mine is black. Did you remove the paint also? I have tried moving the flash back and forward but no flash

I've seen that when you use the yongnuo flash in a Sony camera. It only works in manual. Is it still true?

Hi David, how are you doing? I have a brand new a77mk2 and I'm looking for a flash. Can I use this flash with it? Also, can I use it in HSS? Thanks in advance.

Yes it will work but only manually. for HSS look at the godox v860II or the tt350. I reviewed them .

I found something online called multi-interface hot shoe adapter for canon and nikon branded flashes. So, maybe this could give ttl or hss with a yn560c or yn560n. what do you make of that?
@LavikkaPhotography
@LavikkaPhotography 8 жыл бұрын
+Samme Samme-nlar Nope its just a clean connection. I reviewed the Travor adapter here on my channel. I understand you really want ttl. Here is what I would recommend. I don't like sony flashes but fl32 is ok for its size and does HSS and ttl only facing forward. It's very easy t use. So is the Nissin i40. Your best bet though is the Nissin DI700a. It gives you everything wirelessly. They are all about the same price.

I have the YN560 III flash and RF603 C II, works great on the Canon 7D but not on the a6000. For me, the flash works perfectly on camera without the issues you show. Unfortunately the transceiver does not work with the camera. I tried sliding it back slightly, and can't get it to work. The locking pin you show, on mine does not stick out even when you tighten the locking ring. Could that be the problem? You don't say whether your 603 II are for Canon or Nikon, does it make a difference to the Sony? I have several of these and really need them to work!
@LavikkaPhotography
@LavikkaPhotography 8 жыл бұрын
+batex3 I had a look and the base of the transmitter should be hanging of the back so it is flush with the screen distance wise. also try twisting to the right. have transmitter set on TX and the camera on Flash-Fill.

Your a6000 only goes to 4000 of sec. My current favorites are the Godox v860IIs if need a lot of light and the if you want something portable that is balanced on the camera then look at the Godox tt350s. I reviewed both.

@LavikkaPhotography
@LavikkaPhotography 4 жыл бұрын
It will work but not very well. The only advantage is the pc socket for older strobe kits but even then no hss or ttl. Just get a Godox flash for Sony like v350s or the V1. Life is so much easier that way.

OK so i have sanded all paint off, bent tabs up, treble checked that locating pin is engaging. fires sb900 every time when mounted directly on shoe.It also fires sb 900 every time when using 2 622n's. If i attach my 622n tx it will not fire. it is sending a signal as the light flashes on the back of the sb900 but no flash. if i take the sb900 off ttl the 622x fires it in manual???? whats going on here then?
