If I remember correctly, in my own research, some foods inhibit the absorption of certain heavy metals. Apparently tofu is great regarding lead, 110g tofu a day may reduce absorption by around 80%. Eat iron foods, fibre/phytates, thiamine-rich foods, berries, apples, green tea, etc at least 2 hours beforehand to reduce heavy metal absorption.

What about a limp biscuit or some black eyed peas?
That's a tough one since it is the substances not the metals themselves that are toxic. Take Mercury for example; while ionic Hg is toxic itself (disrupts a bunch of enzymes and catalyzes a lot of unwanted reactions possibly producing radicals causing gene damage and cell death) it is not as dangerous, because your body doesnt absorb it as well and thus it is not transported through/stored in your whole body. It is organic Mercury compunds ( I-Hg-Me or Hg(Me)2) that will be absorbed rapidly and be stored in your fatty tissue e.g. the white matter of your brain. Though most heavy metals are capable of catalyzing undesired reactions within your body's cells there are diffences regarding how easily your body will absorb them, if your body will store them or even use them for synthethic/construction purposes (e.g. Cadmium used in bone construction instead of Calcium). This begs the question which specific compounds containing heavy metals you will likely encounter in order to determine what heavy metal is the most dangerous for you. But nontheless, the question of toxicity really depends on the specific compound and not on the kind of element. Arsenic for instance isnt even a metal tho, but still nasty as a mineral (ionic state) and even worse as vaporous As(H)3.

When it comes to the health effects of microplastics, the vast and overwhelming majority of what I’ve seen has been speculation based on research about their prevalence. That’s not the same thing as research on their health effects, which appears to be lacking. This is important because Talon seems to prefer research to speculation. He’s not someone who’s just gonna be like “Microplastics are everywhere and that’s bad.” Yeah no, he’s gonna want good research demonstrating why that is bad. Otherwise he’s just left speculating, and he clearly prefers being more authoritative. Indeed, how would you make a video like this one with nothing but speculations? How would you even animate such a video?

From what I've read there isn't much on what it does just yet. Just "It probably does something bad, maybe part of the cause of Alzheimer's." Of course it also probably isn't a problem for most people unless you work with aluminum industrially.

@highly_elusive how much aluminum? How much acidic food? How often?
@lucac143017 күн бұрын
@chaoswraith im pretty sure the citric acid that is in most veg/fruits can react with it, but first their fluid needs to get on the foil, which wouldn't be an issue if it happened while cooking since it gets "degraded" really fast with the temperature of the oven. The real issue is when you use the foil to store somethinh in the fridge, the fluids go on the bottom with the foil and you still eat it up, but i know no one who stores food in tin foil, i don't even own tin foil in my house ngl. Im pretty sure that with regular food packaging regulators like the one in europe you'r pretty much safe, idk about the american one tho. Unrelated but im still baffled to this day on how they permitted both mr beast's lunchly or the pink sauce one made by chef pii.

Studies show fasting seems to work on reducing some heavy metals and contaminants. A 10 day fast decreased urinary nickel by 15% and arsenic by 72%, traces cobalt, chromium and glyphosate(component of pesticides) were detected prior the fast that went untraceable after the fast, there was also a 30% decrease of lead in hair. Then there was a study on Ramadan's fasting effects and it found significantly lower levels of chromium, aluminium, mercury, manganese, and cobalt after the test subjects fasted for 14 and 28 days, there was also a much-reduced blood lead level after 28 days of fasting.

5:40 one important thing about shellfish is that they 'clean' the water, and ergo absorb heavy metals from their environment. the shellfish living in all river estuaries, and nearby shoreline based industry, these shellfish can be extremely dangerous to consume due a much, much higher amount of heavy metals that accumulate in their bodies compared to shellfish raised in farms or in more 'natural' environments.

What was not mentioned but I find interesting is that lead is much more dangerous to children because higher exposure causes lower IQ and many behavioral issues. This issue got better once we removed lead from fuels used in cars. We still use lead in airplane fuels though.

For something rather humorous, I had a debate with a online nut who was dead set on the idea that humans best diet was purely of meat/animal products and some weird counter-veganism, and when I raised the point of how humans very effectively break down sugars UNLIKE many obligate-carnivorous animals, he countered with how “some people can break down arsenic, doesn’t mean it’s good for you.” which always stuck out to me as such a terrible point. Sugar is a simple hydrogen-carbon compound and a spoonful of it, while not good for you, is entirely harmless. Whereas a spoonful of arsenic results in you dropping dead.

Aluminium used to be common in pots and pans, but acidic foods like tomato paste oxidize and absorb aluminium, so it gets into the food. Thats why aluminium vessels today are coated with teflon or other heat resistant material. Scratcy frying pans with broken coating can be a source of aluminium, as well as foil, if used regularly in cooking.

I work at a nuclear research facility and my office is 2 doors down from about 2 tons of lead bricks. My colleagues use a lot of cadmium foils because it has unique nuclear properties. I should probably get a blood test done at some point soon. All the really nasty stuff (Ra, U, Np, Pu, Am, etc) is kept under negative atmosphere in glove-boxes and is well contained, so I'm not too worried about that. Do you think it is worth asking about a wide spectrum test for the other more exotic stuff I might be exposed to? We have quite a bit of chromium and zirconium in the labs that aren't hermetically sealed. There is also a lot of boron in various forms laying around too.

I'm currently rewatching all your videos (some for the 3rd time) and taking notes in a spreadsheet to better balance my diet considering what is most available to me in my area and under my budget. One thing I love is how you often mention the effects some ingredients have on the Thyroid gland. If you have knowledge on the matter, it would be great if you could make a video on how nutrition can improve Thyroid function. I mean, medication is a must, and I do take it, but a proper nutrition can only benefit us. Not to mention the many people (specially women) with Hashimoto's and generally underperforming thyroids that suffer from the effects but don't qualify for meds because they are juuuuust below the "severe" markers of T4.

Hair tests for metals are relatively inexpensive and one can cut a couple of inches of hair from the back of the head and mail it in to the test lab. I did that once because I do a bunch of lead soldering for my electronics hobby as well as for my employer on occasion. I've handled a lot of lead solder over the years as well as eaten a lot of fish and wild mushrooms. The good news was that my lead and other toxics were far below any levels of concern. A good thing that came out of that was that the lab advised me to start taking copper supplements because my zinc level was high and my copper very low. I had been taking zinc supplements and I learned that taking more of one of those two reduces the absorption of the other.
