5:50 You don't buy a PE company because it's healthy - you buy a sick company and try and fix it. 6:50 The chief characteristic of a leader is to be a *chief meaning officer.* Give the work purpose. People want to come to work to have a purpose, a reason for being, to be part of it. Your job as a leader is to let people know why they're there, where they're going, why they're going there, and what's in it for them to go there, and what's the pro's & con's for doing it right. 18:40 Transparency is the biggest virtue you can have in a company. Unions only form for employees to get voice - because nobody's listening otherwise. 19:35 A personnel move speaks louder than a hundred speeches (eg promotion) 29:35 You want somebody who buys into the whole system - the mission - you want that person. 30:38 The person with high performing numbers, but lousy values, is a killer of culture. 32:30 Do people want to hang out with the managers? Do they have a place where people want to work? Are they attracting people, or dodging them? 34:45 Head office has online, fully remote school. Make the remote offices feel like they're part of the mothership. "An online school is the toughest thing in the world." 37:50 The one thing Google could bring to the world is the ability to socialize online education - it's the weak link, and what's missing in the experience vs. an in-person MBA program. 45:28 You want the muscle of a large company, and the heart of a small company. Business is a sport - the team with the best players win - doesn't matter whether you're a big or small company. Reward the best and bust bureaucracy. 47:00 Fight like hell all the time NOT to layer-up a place. Every layer is evil - it spins messages, delays decision making, and does tons of terrible things. 47:40 The leaders job is to create an atmosphere of *truth and trust* - NO spin, NO BS, the truth ONLY.

A cracking voice, an extremely shiny head and a charming woman are too many distractions... :) You better listen to it without watching them to focus on the great message. Great interview!

I always have deep respect from Peter Drucker . After reading Jack's Book '' Winning " . I was blown away his superb managerial skills. I wish I had read this book earlier during my graduation . You must read his book Winning , that's one of the best book to develop your career .

To be a successful leader 1- you need to develop your spiritual value. 2- You need to be a loving person. 3- you need to enroll in acting class.

Jack Welch doesn't know how to grow or invest in a business. His nickname Neutron Jack is well deserved. Through creative quarterly reporting numbers and GE capital, he hobbled his successors. He and Chainsaw Al Dunlap were from the playbook that suggests there's no difference between fat and muscle, so we'll cut our way to greatness. Jack's wife of 30 years was the quintessential corporate wife, raising their kids while Jack was busy, so when he amassed rock star fame and money, Suzy the floozy could barge in.

Welch spoke from a position of unquestioned power. He missed the point Bock was making about those who make the numbers. Customers are delighted, and that is all that matters. And Welch is wrong about not confronting your boss. His metaphorical use of the word "suicide" is a nonsense. That's partly what is wrong in business; tyrants and abusers getting away with being poor managers. And Bock was right. When the tyrants and abusers aka managers leave, everybody does breathe a sigh of relief. Welch's book "Winning" although an interesting read if you are an American CEO, can never be used as source material when doing academic research, or if consulting for an MNC.
