I remember visiting Stormy at the miniature pony center, probably around 1988. At that time, you could walk right up to the stall and pet her. We have a photograph of her with my sister standing next to her. Great memories! For us kids, it was like meeting a celebrity. The miniature pony show was fun as well. I was sad when the place was shut down, but I’m happy someone still has the memorabilia displayed. I hope it remains treasured and well preserved.

I visited Chincoteague and assateague as a kid on a trip with my mom, my brother and my grandparents. It was one of the happiest memories of my life... im coming up on 50 now. One of my dreams is to visit again 😊 I've still got my Misty book around here somewhere 😊 Thanks for sharing ❤❤

We first went to Chincoteague for Pony Penning in 1972, and of course, toured the pony farm where Misty was staying. I got the recently released Breyer model of her, and immediately repainted it to the correct pattern (for 50 years the head has been wrong). Misty died that October, but i've been back every year I could since. Wesley Dennis was a fabulous illustrator who left us some of the finest imagery of Misty, and the islands.

My oldest son and I went with a friend back in 2011, and we hope to go back for the 100TH one next year. Any that we possibly purchase will be trained for western riding using authentic Charro saddles and bitless bridles, but they’ll remain unshod because some bleeding hearts out there claim that horseshoes on a horse make its feet hurt in some way or another.

do a bit of digging in to the history of the museum. it was closed for several years and misty was moved. now granted it may have changed but the last i knew she was not placed back as her condition had degraded and it was going to cost thousands to restore her.

@@museumofchincoteagueisland vary happy to here that. i was at the old museum several times back in the early 90es and when it closed my wife (at the time) and my self purchased a few large mixed lots from the sale sadly she sold some and most of the rest was lost to a flood or i would have gladly given it back to you.

If just one of her paternal male descendants was to be crossbred with an Onager female to produce a possible Hinny, the hybrid of a male horse and female donkey, it would probably be quite interesting.

Why an onager? Where would someone even get an onager other than a zoo? There is a Misty descendent that is a mule, with a normal domestic donkey dad.

There’s plenty of them in western India 🇮🇳, and the hinny is the hybrid offspring of male horses and female donkeys. At least hinnies sired by a paternal male descendant of Misty would be better able to withstand the climate of Cambodia 🇰🇭 for an expedition my oldest son’s planning on in order to capture two herds of Cambodian Kouprey; one for exhibition in a large enclosure on the grounds of the royal palace to allow for breeding populations to increase as well as bringing the second herd here to the USA to set up a breeding colony as well as possibly crossbreeding with Texas Longhorns. Any mules used in the expedition will serve as both pack stock as well as being trained to pull a fleet of scratch built Conestoga wagons, seeing as how male Onagers from India 🇮🇳 will be crossbred with Percheron mares to supply the purpose in question. Above all else, several dozen Texas Longhorns will serve as bait for luring the Kouprey out of hiding, and possibly some of the Texas Longhorns will remain in Cambodia 🇰🇭 as a gift for the royal family.

The alleged tax on grazing from back when Virginia was still a British colony. Besides, I think that maybe the story of the 16 head of Moorish Ponies (1 stallion and 15 mares) surviving a ship wreck when a Spanish galleon sunk off the coast of Virginia is far more logical. As to the explanation of the wild horse herd in the Carolinas, they’re the ones descended from stock turned loose on an island so the owners wouldn’t have to pay a grazing tax.
