Chris Packham should not be using his position within the BBC to promote his opinions, not to mention that fact that a large amount of what he actually says is not remotely true. Very unprofessional along with being blatantly wrong.

He speaks the truth and has science to back it up. Just because something is traditional it doesn't mean It's ok. A healthy ecosystem needs top predators to work, 100x natural grouse numbers is asking for trouble, and the level of disease in grouse proves it. Thousands of acres of uplands for a few people to shoot? Does that really make sense? No. let's see more trees and for gods sake more predators. Please don't come back with curlews & lapwings, that will just prove how little you know.

As can be seen by RSPB, BASC and GWCT publications compiled by scientists, grouse shooting plays a vital role in both actively managing and funding the management of moorland within the UK. Without giving moorland a value through activities such as grouse shooting, we will continue to witness ecology rich moorland turn to overgrazed grassland, bracken and unmanaged scrubland with little to no ecological benefit. We need only look at the baron moorland projects the RSPB oversaw, which they seem to have gone very quite about! I suppose the alternative is that you all put your hands in your pockets and cover the shortfall that banning grouse shooting would create.

Rubbish he doesn't know what he's talking about hell be saying killing cows for beef is cruel next if he thinks a petition to ban grouse shooting will work he should think again because that way of life is peoples livelihoods and how community's develops without the gamekeepers and the shooting the grouse would be wiped out by predators and diseases and the moorland would not be balanced out and sustainable!!!

I think you need to take a chill pill, Ben. Then, have a think about basic sentence structure, spelling and grammar... and re-edit your comment. How did all of that wonderful wildlife mange to survive before Driven Grouse Shooting? If predators kill everything, species like Grouse, curlews etc, would be long gone. When prey becomes scarce predator numbers fall too, then a true natural balance occurs. Not what man says it should be but natural. Grouse at 100x natural levels is not a balanced ecosystem.
