I think I have a theory on where did goku Got his heart virus from,after grandpa gohan died goku lived alone in the wilderness like a wild animal and ate anything Like Wolfs,Bugs anything he hunts down and it could be possible that by living like that or by eating an infected Animal could make goku get the heart virus and because of him being a saiyan the symptoms took years to take it’s affect and killing Goku.

That actually adds up. I thought maybe it was linked to the Kaiocannon since that strained the body. But the ultra divine water was basically for Goku an extra zenkai in the end but his body could have still had the effects of it and every time he got stronger it slowly took over his body and Kaiocannon tearing him up from the inside and SSJ having that huge multiplier it could have sped it up

Does make a hell of a lot of sense. The Kai-Ou-Ken technique as you said creates a lot of strain. Plus if you look during the fights against Nappa and Vegeta, you can see a LOT of body heat coming off Goku. This means his heart is pumping blood at an extremely-fast rate. Faster than what even the Z-Fighters with immense training could handle. As you also said, as he had to use more multipliers, that would cause his heart to pump even more blood at yet a faster rate. Combine that with him using at a 20x factor against Frieza and his SSJ form, yeah, that finally made the poison start to do its job by the time the Android Saga starts.

@@NightSprinter stress does cause diseases to spread faster, but i believe, it is an actual disease, in the manga, they mention other people geting sick. apparently there is a real life disease, that acts almost identical to the heart virus called "myocarditis". but gokus use of the water and the kaioken, could indeed be the reason, why he was more vulnerable to the disease, weakening his heart muscle, so the virus was more lethal, as not everyone who gets infected actually dies from the disease. the z-fighters were likely all exposed, but were asymptomatic. piccolo advises yamcha and chichi to take the medicine as well, as they take care of goku. also if it was poison, the medicine should be taken as fast as possible, before it can permanently damage the body, but this medicine should be taken, once the symptoms start, so likely, goku was not infected when trunks arrived, otherwise, trunks would have told him to drink it immediately.

Also he was told, to take the medicine, "once he starts showing symptoms", which he did, as he only started showing symptoms, when they went to fight the androids, this makes sense for infections, as taking medicine, when you dont need it, can cause an immunity to the medicine AFAIK. also turning supersaiyan seemingly accelerates the progression of the disease. also, if it was poison lingering in gokus body, the cure should have been taken instantly, as soon as trunks arrived. apparently, in the manga, they mention other people catching the disease, even if we never get to see any of them, but thats more due to dragonball not caring to develop minor characters after Z started. Piccolo even advised Yamcha and Chichi to take the medicine as well, just in case they get infected. also, the symptoms of the heart virus match up with a real life disease called myocarditis, but we dont know, if this was intentional, or if toriyama just made up random symptoms, that just happens to match with a real disease.

It would be a fun way to do it, but I think this is pretty explicitly disproven by the fact that it’s called a virus by Trunks and he does actually say there was an outbreak after Goku died. This could actually tie in well with the Yardrat theory since Goku could have been Patient Zero and accidentally spread it to others while it was dormant, though it could also have just been a novel virus from Earth that Goku was an unfortunate early victim of. Since everyone the other timeline’s Goku was close to was killed, it’s hard to say whether or not they had it dormant as well, and it’s probable that if any other Z-Fighters came down with it, the cure was already developed (or Bulma had analyzed the future medicine and developed it early).

Honestly, the biggest issue with that theory is, you have to really stretch the suspension of disbelief to say that the poison remained in Goku's body, for around 30 years. In that time, literally every cell in his body would have been replaced, multiple times over. Without constant repeated exposure, its literally not possible that the poison would remain in his body, even for a fraction of that time. The far more likely scenario is that the virus was an Earth virus, not something super common, but also not something that is just a one time fluke. The thing about it is, it is mildly inconvenient at worst for humans (like the common cold.), but when reacting to Saiyan biology, it has deadly symptoms. This explains why only Goku got it (he wasn't the only one, its just that it was deadly for him due to his Saiyan biology.), why there was no cure (you don't have a cure for something as mild as a cold), and how a cure was able to be created after the fact (the virus would still be around, it just wouldn't be effecting humans on the level that it effected Goku, so they would be able to study it and create a cure for it).

Sure, you could suspend your disbelief to the extent of assuming that this poison/virus somehow lasted for literally decades in Goku's body (also, it is directly stated to be a virus, not a poison.). Or you could go with the much more simple theory that it was an Earth based virus that effects Saiyans in a much more dramatic and deadly way than it effects humans. Its far more simple, and it covers every issue that was brought up for all the other theories.

i'm not too familiar on autopsies being used to help find a cure for any given disease. but given that the cure came from the future, i mentally understood there may have been other victims until a cure was found. not necessarily an epidemic, as you said, but enough people suffering that research was done for a wide range of patients until it was finalized. at least in the real world, that's how it would've gone. but we remember Bulma is a super genius, so she likely could pull off something that amazing

My question had always been, if the disease was contagious as Trunks had stated, then how come neither Gohan nor Chi Chi ever catch it when they were the closest ones to Goku, and it would have been unlikely that they had known about the virus in the future, yet we don't see Future Gohan or Future Chi Chi dying from such virus, so it really begs the question on how the heck was a cure even found, and then if you have to account for how the Androids had then started destroying the world, people were basically living in apocalyptic times with limited resources, so that is why that cure just doesn't make a lot of sense, or how even was Bulma able to make her Time Machine since even in Super where she didn't have the same limitations, she struggled a bit to get more of the same fuel source.

Honestly this is a good theory. But I feel like Goku just got the virus from the way he lived his life during his childhood after Grandpa Gohan died. He had to go through the wild to find food and not to mention I think theres a scene in the managa and anime where he saves a rat by protecting it in his mouth, so I could have been a simple heart virus with an already avaliable public cure which everyone probably didn't know it was too late since Goku was an alien and they couldn't have known everything about his biology. A lot of other people agree on this being the reason why he had it but your theory has some valid and solid evidence to it, so good theorizing.

The Ultra Divine Water? I think that's plausible, but I don't think so. Besides Goku, Yamcha and Yajirobe also drank from the Ultra Divine Water. Unlike Goku, Yajirobe only takes a sip, so it is understandable he can't get the virus. But Yamcha did drink a full cup just like Goku and he didn't get the virus. An explanation can be made is that Goku's Saiyan DNA mixed with the UDW created the virus. But if that's the case then, Why Gohan and Trunks weren't infected by it? Being Half Saiyan is not a good rebuttal since many Earthlings died of the Heart Virus too. I think the Heart Virus was created by Gero in order to kill Goku if his androids failed in his quest for revenge. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, The Red Ribbon Army led by Magenta and Carmine had a front company named "Red Pharmaceuticals". They could have gotten the data from one of Gero's Hideouts and managed to produce a vaccine for the Heart Virus. I know Super created a lot of retcons, but I want to believe in the late Toriyama-Sensei's ideas he added in this sequel to Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z.

When saiyans past their biological set limits their body gives them a final test , which I think is the heart virus or heart problems a biological near death experience to evolve thier bodies because they broke thier natural limits prime examples are ( vegeta heart problems on namek, gohan illness in time chamber and Pan fever in super) when this is happen and they past the test they rest for a long time, now that ultra divine water theory is good but no other saiyans never drank any, aslo the medicine that was made in trunks timeline is because of bulma who is a genius who properly used vegeta as test subject because he a full saiyan and properly unwilling told her that he took alien medicine on namek which for his heart as well

issue with that is, the db earth is far more technologically advanced than our world and bulma is bulma, she has all the resources in the world at this point so she could easily make a cure, she didnt make a time machine earlier because 1. she didnt immediately come to the idea of building a time machine and thinking its even possible 2. she no longer had the near infinite resources she had previously due to the androids doing there thing

I have small diffrent theory. I do agree it could be posion but I dont think it was the water. What we should also not forget is that Gokus apperance of the heart virus is diffrent in Trunks timelime. There Goku died because of the virus before the android attack. In the main timeline he got the virus durning the fight with 19. I think Goku was poisoned but maybe due to one of Geros spy robots In Trunks timeline here had time to create the virus send one of those robots out before the attack since he finished 17 and 18. With Goku gone the biggest threat wasnt anymore around. In the main timeline the plans changed because 18 & 17 were do rebellious so he had also create 19 and make himself into 20. So he couldnt create the posion and send out the spy robot in time and did it just before the attack thats why Gokus symptomes came later in the main timeline. In Trunks future they may than stumbled one the formula of the virus while searching for way to beat the androids.

Other than that even if he killed Goku and the Z-Fighters he still wanted world domination and would had to battle basically every single army on the world. On top of that he also knew about frieza because of the spy robots so he knew that there were in outer space also threats for him. So the androids would still be needed.

I think its weird that people argue his life style as a kid when those kind of viruses should have killed him or at least inhibated his growth alot more before he became a healthy adult so i say its because frieza is a reptile from space with blood saiyan kind wouldve never had contact with because of the power gap between every saiyan and frieza until frieza fought goku and frieza had a high level of ki/chi enough to contend for a minute with super siayan goku and it started when goku bit friezas tail being strangled and goku came into cantact with something there that was normal and something friezas reptillian race became immune to over time but could jump across the mammal reptile barrier and evolve and since ki is an unknown factor and friezas was high it hit goku like a mac truck after laying dormant until he came back to earth.

There is no real reason Goku caught the virus. He caught it because Toriyama needed a reason for the future timeline to not have Goku. I guess if you asked Toriyama he would have said that he caught it like how any other person would catch it…
