Just rereading the books and I think you’re right. Another reason could be that she could sense that Eragon did not wish to rule and be king, only to serve. That is mentioned several times in the books. Sephira knows this quality is important because no one wants another dragon rider to walk in Galbatorix’s footsteps. No king should live and rule forever.

That’s true! I was trying to base this mainly on the first book, and I think that comes up later, but it’s a really good point. Eragon is not a ruler at heart.

Eragon's compassion I feel played a big role in it. It helps balance out her aggression and is what allowed them to defeat a certain opponent.

The idea Sapphira could have chosen some other carvahall boy if only they had hunted in the spine and found the egg instead isn't a possibility. The spell arya used to send the Egg had the mistake of being sent to the son rather than the Father, Brom who was the intended target. So no matter where eragon was he would be the first person in contact with the egg after arya. So Sapphira could have possibly chosen another from Carvahall only If Eragon either sold or otherwise passed the egg on to another.

Yes! Saying someone else could have come across the egg does not mean she would’ve hatched for them just because they found her. As for the identity of Eragon‘s father, I was trying to keep this spoiler free past the first book and that’s kind of a big spoiler😂

(Spoilers for Inheritance!) Actually the Eldunari on Vroengard altered the energies to have the egg sent to Eragon because they believed there was a chance it would hatch for him, it wasn't an accident that it ended up with him.
