Sean Strickland vs. Sneako is a rare glimpse for the rest of the world into what it's like when a low level amateur and a high level professional spar. When the professional lets his ego control him, the amateur suffers. Pride, insecurity and poor decision making by everyone involved led to this debacle.

Sean has almost verbatim said: 'The first day I started training I got the absolute shit beaten out of me, and I've never been so happy in my life,' or something to that effect. I think that alone gives us the insight we need into the situation.

The abusive father thing is on point. It makes me think back to my football coach, he was ridiculously mean, on the edge of abuse, and everyone on the team wanted him to love us. Convexly, my hockey coach actually cared about us, and he spent a lot of time and effort making sure we understood why we were doing everything we did. In the end, I took both of those lessons into fatherhood and use my hockey coach’s methods for training my children, even discipline comes with an explanation as to the why and how. I still love playing hockey, because of the good role model of coach Kenny.

I was one of those, who smiled when Snek got tread on. But it's not because of sadism, nor because I was jealous. I smiled because an arrogant person met reality in a way that cannot be dodged by lying to yourself or making excuses. It may hurt a bit, but the most it hurts the ego, and sometimes it is good. I used to do "ninjutsu" when I was 16. My uncle did kickboxing on the European level. I thought I was tough as titanium nails, even though I had never sparred because "our style was too dangerous". After 20min in the ring with him going light on me I didn't feel tough anymore. He congratulated me for not quitting, after which we got some ice for my face and nose. I dropped bulshido and went to boxing and HEMA, then joined the military a few years later. One of my best memories.

I didn't know who Sneeko was. Just watched like 2 videos and immediately lost all respect for him. People who get embarrassed like this don't necessarily find humility though. I knew a guy who would get beat up at bars all the time and still start shit. He just never cared enough about himself for self-preservation. Some people just never hit bottom. Most people just keep telling themselves they have something to offer in some other arena. Which is true but being able to punch good feels like it trumps a lot of other things when you get punched.

There's a difference between gently enlightening a delusional child and what happens with Strickland's sparring "partners". He's deliberately knocked people out when they were supposed to be going light. He has a reputation for it. This IS sadism. Strickland doesn't do this to help. He does it for the same reason most bullies do it, because it strokes their ego. Strickland doesn't give a fuck what Sneako thinks, nor does he care about the damage he does to the people that spar with him. He DOES care about when his peers, the true professional fighters, go hard on him however. He'll be soft as a kitten when sparring someone who can fight back and maybe actually hurt him, and he'll whine and bitch when one of these guys goes a little too hard. All earmarks of a classic bully, and it's no suprise that Strickland's father was physically and psychologically abusive. It's clear as day, even without Strickland going on record about it.

I trained in MMA for 8 years and there was always a code of respect among our training partners. When someone who is not of your camp comes in off the street and doesn't want to train but immediately wants to spar, they basically want to see if they can beat you. Given that challenge on sneako's part and whatever trash he talked, he kind of made his own bed. You don't walk into a Veteran Champion UFC fighter's camp and assume you can hang with him. An Arrogant mistake, horribly disrespectful.
@therainman7777
@therainman7777 3 ай бұрын
I can see why you’d think that but I’m guessing that you’re missing a lot of information here. Sneako did not talk ANY trash at all about Strickland, nor did he treat this like a “challenge” to Strickland. Say what you will about Sneako, but he was not arrogant in this scenario at all. He knew he was going to get destroyed by Strickland and said so multiple times, on camera, to his audience. It was definitely not meant to be a challenge to Strickland’s skills; more like Sneako is just a typical influencer who will do crazy things to get views, and sparring Strickland is obviously pretty crazy. There was no blatant disrespect involved though.

@@MutedAggression So if you were an experienced climber hanging out at a rock climbing gym and someone came in off the street wanting to climb an expert-level wall, you would suit them up, tell them to go for it, and hope that they get kind of fucked up doing it? All because they didn’t sign up for classes first? Seems kind of sadistic, for reasons I don’t quite understand. It’s not like Sneako was talking shit and needed to be humbled. He seemed to show deference to Sean the whole time and knew that Sean could kill him if he wanted to. He also never acted like a tough guy or claimed he was good at fighting. So then what’s the point of “humbling” someone who hasn’t shown any signs of not being humble? All he was guilty of was being excited to spar with a champion, which I assume most people would be.

While I somewhat agree this was a bit rough, a fully grown adult man challenged the former champ knowing exactly who he is and what he is all about and at the very least knew he would get his ass kicked (he didn't know how bad, you never do until you experience it). That is way different than Lombard fucking up his training partners who were there to learn and grow. He didn't come in for a boxing lesson with Sean and then Sean just randomly started beating on him. Lombard was different because people were mutually there to learn and he would just snap your knee in half for fun.
@MMAGamblingTips
@MMAGamblingTips 2 ай бұрын
@@mortekaieve4729 I agree Sneako is a grown adult and can make his own decisions but Sean should have at least went to the body and/or just rag dolled him. Going to the head so much could have given the young man more brain damage. Look at the Merab vs. fan video and how he handled it. And Hector wasn’t just a gym bully to other teammates, he was doing this at a time when regular students could train with the public, and Hector would just pummel them. Ofc this led to them never returning and him being booted from many gyms. You remember Mike Pierce? He said ex UFC WW Rick Story would do this too. At one point really injuring someone. You can probably find the video/audio on here. But all in all I think we’re on the same page here. 👌

@@MMAGamblingTips Yeah, 100% if I were world champ material I wouldn't even entertain something like this and think Strickland should have gone easier, but unless you've been living under a rock you know the guy is unhinged. I think he even told Sneako he would straight up kill him in the most serious way possible before they did this. What baffles me is that these other fighters just let it happen. Forrest obviously knew this was insane and was concerned, but if not for him Sneako definitely would have taken a whole lot more damage. If Forrest didn't walk away, which he probably did because he didn't want to watch a clown show, I'm sure he would have stepped in even earlier than he did. And yeah, Lombard is a complete psychopath. I commented elsewhere that he would just fuck up random people who wanted to simply train and learn, so we are together on that. Josh Barnett put him in his place and made him quit training at Paulson's since he had no chill. Strickland actually had an issue with Orlando Sanchez when they trained because Sanchez went too hard and tried to snap his elbow in half. I hear quite a few pro guys do this, too. I was hanging out with some guys from a local gym that Cerrone dropped in at for a training session, one of the guys said Cerrone fucked his knee up with a few leg kicks to the point where he couldn't walk for about 4 months. I guess Cerrone just threw everything he could into a few of those kicks during "light sparring". That one surprised me since Cerrone seems like a chill dude.

Misinformation. Sean asked what Sneako does. Sneako was trying to explain but couldn't find the words. Sean said "You're an influencer, right?". Sneako said "I guess". Sneako did not introduce himself as an influencer, since he isn't actually an influencer. Secondly, it was JustPearlyThings that suggested Sneako does a podcast with Sean. She pitched it to Sean and Sean said they should spar instead. Sneako accepted. Sneako is a "hate magnet" influencer. Kind of like Dillon Dannis. They are attention obsessed narcissists that have some of the worst takes known to man, and most of their credibility comes from people with status getting angry at them. Instead of fixing themselves, they run with the fame. For example Sneako converted to Islam just because he was gaslighted into it, and now he thinks he's better than everyone else, and uses his religion as a shield kind of like how Steven Segal is a "Buddhist" to present himself as some spiritual sage. Sneako knew fully well Sean was gonna mess him up, but for him the attention was worth it. Now he's suffered a huge self esteem blow. He thought Sean was gonna give him the old "you agreed to fight me, you have my respect" but he doesn't know Sean has his own way of dealing with these things. People are gonna pat him on the back for this and he's fine with it.

Spot on Mike. I think what also adds to this is Sneako's persona online - he's big in that "alpha male", Andrew Tate, etc space and a bit of a bully himself. So he also has to keep up the act even more than the average person in a gym experiencing that level of violence for the first time. He has to say it was all good and convince himself it was fine otherwise he'd be going totally against his own views.
@minsengo
@minsengo 3 ай бұрын
Good point. Rather than Sean's sparring etiquette I find it more telling what Sneako subjected himself to, despite being warned and knowing he would be in over his head. The ending point was most interesting where Mike discerns (and I agree) Sneako still wants approval from Sean for getting in there taking a beatdown. Plus, your point, he to walk the walk because of the persona he's built for himself.
@bleeem

The crazy thing is that we all go trhough a experience like this to some degree in our gym. And its the most important part of the process because your ego needs to fucking die, you need to understand that you are not that good, you are not the fastest, strongest and etc, Thank God i for some reason never had that Ego even though i had a lot of anger issues, but they would never pop out during training, even when i got beat, but instead that i can improve, you should never think about "damn im trash" but instead "damn im trash NOW but i will get better". But the Alpha Male and Manosphere is all about the EGo, YOU ARE THE PRIZE and those bs that for most men from most cultures that are not america are not a thing, and that is the true problem, kids now are getting raised by a false internet culture made by scammers, not by their actual dad and actual values.

Not with my experience and education in therapy and counseling, not with my little bits of martial arts/fighting experience, not with over six decades of living, over two of them in the military. Just. Spot. On. Thanks, Mike!

You don’t go to Mike Tyson gym in his prime , people tell you don’t spar with him he’s going to knock you out / spar hard with you & you then proceed to get your grown ass in the ring thinking this is a game then you get what you get. Boxing / MMA isn’t a game people have literally died in the ring/octagon so I honestly respect Sean for not playing or inviting that goofy vlogging shit into this sport. I bet sneako won’t play around with this shit anymore and maybe even start taking classes and This is my opinion.

Key word sparring not fighting, a world champion can toy with a guy who's never trained with 1 hand , there's no need to fight him like he's about to get a belt

Sneako did start taking classes and Sean asked sneako to spar first in another video I saw. Can't stand sneako myself but I thought Sean took it too far. The three punches to the head at the end were definitely over the line in my opinion

Love your videos Mike, smart and genuine. Been there in sparring, come out dizzy and shaking, not nice at the time but it drove me to be better and train harder, lucky to have regular sparring partner who’s a good friend and someone I trust, we still add 5% power each until we’re brawling by the third round though 😂😂😂

There seemed to be a weight difference. Sneako looks kinda gaunt. It seemed fine. Sean said what he was going to do and Sneako might learn from it.

Why do you think a full round would be ok? If that was an actual ufc fight it would have been stopped in like 10 seconds. Us ufc fans get mad at the ref every time we watch a fight that let's 3 or 4 unnecessary punches through. This was like 15 unnecessary punches.

@@jakeallstar1 Are you sure about that? Most of those punches were at least partially blocked, which is why Sneako was basically fine. No fighter wants a stoppage when he's ok, unless he's caught in a position he can't escape.

@@mason9807 Not even close to the same thing. Sean had a fight coming up, couldn't afford to be injured, and the guy did a sudden crank on his arm that hurt his elbow joint.

I think you’re right Mike…. I used to spar with a similar sort of dude (I knew him from when I was 3 yo). Not sure what happened in his house when we were young but when he smelled blood, his level of intensity increased, no matter what/when/were. I am pretty sure he justified it in much the same way as Strickland. My view is that he was always trying to prove himself and he thought this was a way he’d gain power. That guy ended up in prison for manslaughter. Personally I think real strength is your ability to support other people with your strength and power. Re, knocking someone out cold- That’s a real hard thing to do if it’s one on one, they have their hands up (and know even a little about defence) and are moving (unless there is a massive weight/power difference…. And you can’t run away). If they are trying to knock you out then that’s slightly different.
@LictordeThrax

Sean said the moment the clock was beeping "I want this to last longer." SO, while he congratulated Sneako for not dropping down, I don't think he was trying to knock him out. Sean tried to PUNISH him. Most people crumble/fold when he does that.
