Miller's interception in the Holiday Bowl was also a pass to the outside. There is also no way they should have Zach Branch on the field on third and short if they are passing the ball. He isnt the type of receiver who can fight for a ball. This is not Branch's fault, this is another element of poor coaching/strategy.

Heres the summary of why USC lost: 1. Conservative Play Calling 2. Zach has butter fingers & overrated 3. Receivers seem to be space cadets at times 4. O - Line is in bad shape (Henson shouldve been let go last season) 5. Lincoln unfortunately didnt run the ball in the last series. 6. Stupid Penalities (and missed calls) 7. Mason Cobb is just too slow and small. Raeson needs to take his spot. What needs to happen moving forward: 1. Joyner needs to get the ball A LOT MORE. He always breaks the first or two tackles and is a hard nosed runner. 2. Lincoln needs to change the offense to be more run heavy. It was obvious in the 2nd half they were gettin just enough on the ground to open up the pass. But he didnt commit to runnin it n went back to airing it out. 3. WRs need to step it up simple as that. 4. Bear at this point needs to be out the rotation. He is a ZERO factor on that line. 5. Lynn needs to stop giving so much space on the outside. The DBs are legit and can afford to play up on the line. Challenge them to throw the ball when theyre obviously hell bent on running you down. All in all, take the L, get better, and grow. Its early- it was a close game besides alllllll those mistakes- DAWG WORK. Down but neva out. ✌🏽

I disagree that the run opened up the pass, it was the other way around. The problem is that Riley is messing around with screens that are not working. Let Miller stretch the defense with deeper passes and more complex passing route running. that was the most generic play calling i have seen. It feels like Riley is trying to throttle his offense so he can demonstrate that the defense can win the game.

But those shovels were absolutely unwarranted. And i disagree on Riley throttling the offense. Hes done this generic stuff in the past. He just didnt read the room and reverted to his old ways of passing instead of running it. I have also no idea why they didnt make the adjustment of putting a TE on the line to help with the edge rusher that was eating them alive.

The OL, i agree. But on 2 out, those 3 long runs, it was clearly holding. On the 4 and 1, that first down was short, and they never replied it at all. On that drive, UM scored. The OL was us. Everything outside of that was the refs. I have a laundry and grocery list on things.

Zach hasn’t progressed either. He was afraid of contact, he didn’t attack the ball on that pick six and other than one punt he refused to run. He looked scared out there. Kid needs a lot of one on one help in coaching or put someone else in for him because his route running and hands are not up to par. I would have rather seen Ford out there. He’s a burly target that would have gotten us those tough first downs that Branch wasn’t willing to go for.

Other problem is the runs we called were right up the gut in the beginning. Why didn’t Riley take away what the rest of the country knew from watching the Texas game footage: run to the outside when Graham and Grant are in the game! Just common sense. Texas didn’t run up the middle until those two were out of the game or totally gassed in the second half. The play calling was terrible. Secondly, when we had the lead he didn’t run any time off the clock with those shovel passes. Just run draws and hit a screen when you need a first down, not a flipping shovel pass. Riley cost us the game. He didn’t protect the D in the end. Those dudes played their hearts out and he let them take the heat having to stop that final drive. The Mullings run never would have happened had we run time off the clock. Nevermind burning 2 time outs in the 3rd for dumb substitutions. I feel like after 7 years the guy would have learned this lesson by now. Just shaking my head. Also my man, please go replace all those smoke detector batteries!

This is by far the best take I’ve listened to on why USC lost. Make them prove they can throw and we never did. We let our Def get run down to the ground in the first half and gave up 14 unnecessary points before changes were made. Changes weren’t made fast enough with the oline and that killed us too. The play calling with running a TE 3x (for -3yards) at the LOS needs to be thrown out the playbook. Roll Miller out the pocket or bring in the backup who can. If I’m any team playing USC I’m bringing the pressure and making Miller and the oline prove they can handle it.

I knew Michigan would cover the spread but I thought if our oline held up we would eek out a 3 point win, but the oline couldn’t hold their own so we ended up on the other end. I see at least two more losses ahead but with some luck we can end up 9-3 and win our bowl game for a 10 win season, but we’ll need some things to go our way. Ok I’m gonna speak up. You go to a conference known for RUNNING THE BALL so you the offensive guru had no blocking scheme and play design for this matchup with a bye week. All week I kept 12 personnel and a possible 13 personnel and new ways of getting Branch the ball and a new package for the other QB quiet. Carter, thank you for being real. The homer “I’m proud of this team” and moral victories, and last year’s team would have not come back etc. look here’s the real; USC laid an egg against a bad Michigan team. They are not the dominant team that we want. Period. They should win games they should win and make games like against good teams. They always play down to mediocre teams in big games. Not since 2002-2006. This started 2006 rose bowl against Texas. Losing game we should have won: every year since then usc has most games they should have won. They lay eggs in the big ones since then. USC is not back yet, sorry to inform. They’re starting o line is suspect and bordering joke (big Paige is soft as Charmin), Noa is lost all over the place. Riley makes too many coaching mistakes for the money he makes. You and I could have called better offensive game to win. This guy isn’t as “guru like” or savvy or smart as they say. A smart coach adjusts his playcalling after first possession failure. You have to adjust so your score every possession but Riley thinks it’s normal to not score for the entire first quarter and that slow starts are somehow part of it. Lynn also gave up 300 yards as D coordinator. He wasn’t successful either. And he got gouged 4 times for big plays. That’s not a good day. USC disappointment in all areas. Period. Nothing but a crap fest. This isn’t moral victory time. It’s time to be pissed and take yourself and team to the woodshed as a coach. But you watch, “patty cake” approach for Riley and usc.
